Darkest Dungeon 2

Darkest Dungeon 2 differs greatly and divides its fans

Darkest Dungeon was an absolute success and that’s no secret: it’s a game with incredible art, fantastic storytelling and a new and unique gameplay. Because of this, we created a lot of expectation for its sequel and were surprised to see that there were major changes in its gameplay that divided its fans.

Regardless of the style between Darkest Dungeon 1 or 2, one thing for sure is that both are excellent games and that they certainly work very well for a livestream. Let’s dig deeper into this subject.

Darkest Dungeon… only without the dungeon?

That’s right: the sequel to Darkest Dungeon does not take place in a dungeon like in the first game. This time, you are in a carriage exploring the world towards the top of a mountain, where you will face your last enemy. The goal is to make it to your destination alive, and that is easier said than done.

Among the biggest differences between the two games is the fact that this time you are not focused on taking care of the city and evolving it by recruiting various characters and changing them when they are unable to continue.

Here you assemble your group at the beginning of the game and follow it until the end of the chosen Act. The game has 5 acts in total and each match can vary from 1.5 hours to 2-3 hours, by my average, something quite different from the previous game. This greatly divided its fans who were looking for an improved version of the first game.

New gameplay flows better for the livestream

With its new choice of switching to a shorter gameplay compared to the first game and separating the total adventure into 5 acts, Darkest Dungeon 2 works better for a livestream, after all it is more direct than its predecessor and it is much easier to follow at least one of the acts through to the end during a broadcast.

I have lost count of how many streamers I have seen playing Darkest Dungeon 1 without finishing it, because it was too long.

The new look of the game is now in 3D, but it has models, textures, and lighting so well done that they look like paintings and very similar to the art of the first game, which leaves anyone jaw-dropping with its animations.

High difficulty remains a hallmark of the series

Darkest Dungeon was already a very difficult game, and its sequel is not far behind. Here we have similar mechanics for your combat, but in addition, you only have those 4 characters to make it to the end. This increases the risks, but also engages you in rooting for your favorite streamer to complete the act you are playing.

The game has a meta progression system that allows your heroes to get stronger and new items are made available for future play, so even if you lose that run you don’t come back empty handed, which makes the player want to try harder and harder.

The game was tested on the STEAM version and is well optimized, ran very smoothly and without crashing during my livestream. It is translated into 13 languages, with its dubbing only in English.

Summary

Darkest Dungeon 2 is an excellent continuation of the already amazing predecessor game, and its faster, more direct gameplay, with its beautiful graphics and narration, works perfectly for livestreams. It is fully translated into several languages, making it even more accessible. Compared to the first game, it loses only in its limitation of keeping the same characters throughout the act and having fewer heroes available than the first game.
