Slime Rancher 2 maintains the essence of the original while expanding its potential
The premise of “Slime Rancher 2” is to take us to a colorful and cute world where we can relax and create adorable little creatures called Slimes, they have various shapes, colors, personalities and properties. It is impossible not to look at one and not want to have it.
In this game we will create our own slime ranch exploring the beautiful Rainbow Island. Our protagonist in this adventure remains the same as in the previous game, Beatrix LeBeau, who after the events of her first adventure, decides to explore rainbow island in search of new slimes and resources.
Slime Rancher 2 has simple, easy gameplay for anyone
In “Slime Rancher 2” we have a simple concept, you have a suction tool where you can absorb slimes, liquids, fruits, vegetables, ores, etc.
The game quickly puts you on the island to explore and get material to expand your ranch, so it’s all about exploration, you will always have something new to discover. This is not a game that focuses on combat or even the idea of capturing slimes, but exploring and expanding.
The adventure is very relaxing for any type of player and can take hours and hours without even realizing it, similar to games like “Stardew Valley”.
It is possible to upgrade Beatrix with more energy to run, a jetpack to fly, a few more spaces to carry items, among other improvements, adding yet another objective and reward for her explorations.
Each slime has its own diet and after feeding them you are rewarded with Plorts, small colored crystals used as material for improvements or sale to receive gold, allowing you to expand the ranch.
A Few Tweaks Would Make a Big Difference
Now, let’s talk about some problems I had with the game. The lack of a minimap hindered my experience a bit, in a game where the exploration is so high, having to stop almost every moment to press the map button to locate myself was tiresome, considering that for me it was easy to get lost in certain areas, a simple minimap would solve this problem.
Although it is possible to increase from four to six spaces of materials to carry, I still think it is very little and for being a game with a focus on relaxation and exploration, could have in your customization options to have more spaces, I got a little tired of having to stop everything and go back to base to store the materials or slimes that caught for lack of space, when I was getting excited to explore, had to go back.
The game is extremely similar to the first, and can even be confused with an expansion. It is currently bringing more and more content, because it is in early access, but as far as I played, I did not feel much difference from one to the other.
Very attractive for a live stream, but needs more focus from the streamer
This game fits like a glove for a stream, after all you can explore this whole island and discover its secrets together, combine slimes and increase your ranch.
However, the constant stoping the exploration to go back to store items and the somewhat slow progression in the beginning can hinder the broadcast if there is not a more constant interaction between the streamer and his audience.
It is possible to get some fun moments with some slimes, because they are so charismatic, or else by attacking more aggressive slimes or by the Tarrs, which are corrupted slimes that invade your ranch.
In terms of performance, the Steam version was tested and the game worked well here, however it did give some stuttering sometimes when it would load some new area, nothing to worry about, but it is always good to comment.
The game is translated into nine languages, making it easier for more streamers and their audiences to enjoy it.
Slime Rancher 2
Summary
Slime Rancher 2 doesn’t innovate much from its predecessor, however it has huge potential to go further. I can recommend it for a live stream where the streamer can interact more with his audience when the gameplay gets slower and repetitive. It is a good game and will entertain any audience that is interested in the idea of a game to explore and relax.
