Mortanis Prisoners Game Review

Mortanis Prisoners is exactly what you would expect from a game that’s heavily inspired by the survival horror mainstays, such as Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and even a dash of Alone in the Dark here and there. It’s a first-person survival horror game that takes a lot of cues from the recent Resident Evil games, but set in World War II.
Mortanis Prisoners Graphics Review: Strong Atmosphere, Weak Enemy Design

Mortanis Prisoners may lack a lot of things, but it stands out when it comes to the atmosphere and the graphics. The areas you explore as Justina are unnerving because everything feels like it was just recently inhabited by people. Of course, this is a common trope for games of this nature, but Mortanis Prisoners succeeds in creating a tense atmosphere where a lot of similar games fail.

Overall, the stage design is great, but the enemy models are disappointing to say the least. The monsters in this game look like a cheap imitation of an amalgamation of horror game enemies, and the game falls flat in terms of creature design and even impact.
I expected a lot from a game that could create such a tense atmosphere, but it ultimately fell short in every other aspect.
Mortanis Prisoners Gameplay Review: Exploration, Puzzles, and Bad Gunplay

The gameplay is similar to a lot of survival horror games, such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill. A lot of exploration and backtracking is expected, and there are some clever puzzles here and there. I think that Mortanis Prisoners does well enough in this area, but falls extremely short when it comes to combat. The gunplay is ridiculously bad. I don’t know if it’s poor sound design or if the physics-based hit reactions were just off by a mile, but fighting enemies in this game, despite the presence of ammunition and weaponry, feels off-putting.
Mortanis Prisoners Atmosphere Review: Tension, Sound Design, and B-Movie Voice Acting

Still, I have to give credit where credit is due. Mortanis Prisoners is a good-looking game with an interesting premise. What sets this game apart from other games is how good and tense it feels to play it. The environmental design and the sound design are great. I also give credit to the hammed-up voice acting in the game. It gives it that classic cheesy ‘90s B-movie vibe, and that’s something I enjoy in horror games.
Mortanis Prisoners Final Thoughts: A Short Horror Game With Missed Potential

Mortanis Prisoners is a good-looking but disappointing game. It’s a good attempt by the developers, and you can clearly feel their passion for the project. The game is also relatively shorter in comparison, as my playthrough lasted about an hour and a half. Would I say it was a good game? Not really. It’s a good attempt at one and I think that the developers can only do better from here.

Summary
Mortanis Prisoners gets a lot right when it comes to atmosphere, visual tension, and horror tone, but the weak enemy design and poor gunplay hold it back. It feels like a short survival horror game with real effort behind it, even if the final result is more interesting than satisfying.
