YouTube is the preferred platform for teenagers to consume gamer content

While Twitch and Kick compete for the attention of streamers and viewership, YouTube quietly remains a major video platform and is preferred among American teenagers for the consumption of gaming content.

The information came from the survey “Precise Advertiser Report: Teens & Youth”, conducted in partnership by PreciseTV and Giraffe Insights. A total of 1000 young people aged between 13 and 17 were interviewed between March and April 2023 about their online content consumption routine, especially video.

The result: 76% of respondents said they prefer YouTube to watch other people play video games. The second place went to Facebook, with 40%.

Twitch, the largest live streaming platform today, was only third in the choice of American teenagers, with 34% of the respondents’ choice.

YouTube also leads in choosing the most used apps among American teenagers. According to the survey, 27% of respondents prefer the Google video platform application, followed by TikTok (21%), Facebook (20%), Instagram (18%) and Snapchat (6%).

A large part of YouTube’s popularity stems from the fact that the platform’s application is more “friendly” for parents of teenagers, who understand its interface better and are more comfortable using it for their children.

There is also the “integration” factor, since YouTube brings, on a single platform, content ranging from scripted videos, live videos and vertical videos similar to TikTok.

The survey also revealed some other darlings of American teenagers in their online gamer content consumption routine. Among the most popular influencers are: Mr. Beast, PewDiePie, Dude Perfect and Jake Paul.

Furthermore, respondents also cited their preferred games to play, which include titles like Minecraft, Call of Duty, Roblox, and Fortnite.
