In Undying, you play as Anling, a mother on a mission to evacuate with her young son, Cody, during a zombie outbreak. While waiting at the local subway evacuation point, zombies invade the area and bite Anling, but she manages to protect Cody and escape the horde, returning to their family home.

Now, Anling must find another evacuation point and, more importantly, find a way to survive and ensure the safety of her son. There is a twist though: Angling is infected and doesn’t have much time left to teach Cody how to survive on his own.

Undying brings a different way to live stream Survival games

The premise of the story is interesting and it’s refreshing to see a game that makes you play not just as any survivor, but as someone who has already been infected and must carefully plan every action (like in the Dead Rising series too).

Undying is a good game for streamers dedicated to the horror genre, especially for those who have been playing survival games like How to Survive and State of Decay which include resources micro-management and narrative quests.

Teaching your son how to survive

The road for salvation is not an easy one: you must first learn how to survive in this world full of zombies and then reach the local prison, which is the new evacuation point, before Anling’s time runs out. It’s important to protect your home and secure vital resources such as meds, food, and water.

Scavenging for resources and repairing necessary items such as cookers is necessary for survival. Once you have a steady supply of water, you can grow crops, prepare meals with random ingredients, create bandages and medicine, and craft various tools.

To craft items, you need specific parts such as clothes, wires, metal, or glass. Crafting requirements are clearly listed even if you have not yet found all the required parts. Upgrading your crafting stations can also provide more storage and additional item options.

It is important to teach Cody everything you do, allowing him to gain vital experience and do things on his own. As the journey progresses and your body starts giving up to the infection, it becomes harder to find a balance between your survival and the well-being of your son.

Much more than just surviving

You must often venture outside your house to find the parts you need for crafting, but this involves starting risky looting missions. To explore remote areas, you need to fix your car and gather supplies. You will meet people fighting to survive and others offering safe refuge, though trusting them could be risky for you and your son. Making difficult choices is necessary, but sometimes they can lead to bad consequences.

The game features some roguelike elements and since each choice you make can lead to different consequences there is some good replayability in case you want to try multiple playthroughs. This is also an advantage for streamers because it makes each game different, limiting the risk of boring your audience.
