Twitch: With improvements, ad-free channel discovery system reaches more users

Discovering new channels and streamers on Twitch may be starting to become less of a chore as the new channel discovery system, without the ads before the content, has started to reach more users on the platform. And with improvements.

Launched to a select few users in June 2022, the new ad-free channel discovery system, called Channel Switcher, now reaches more people on Twitch, making it easier for them to watch many different channels without viewing ads before the content.

With this, Twitch believes, viewers will feel more free to discover new streamers, not just sticking to those channels where they are already subscribers and, therefore, are not affected by ads at any time during the transmission.

The improvements introduced by Twitch

Twitch announced the expansion of the Channel Switcher this Monday (22) and revealed improvements in the system, even without confirming the percentage of users that will be contemplated with the novelty.

One of the novelties is the look of the “Search” page. With the new channel discovery system, previews of live broadcasts for each game category can be displayed in two formats: carousel and grid. The user will also have the option to auto-progress to the next channel after a broadcast preview time.

The streaming platform also confirmed that if the user is viewing clips from a specific category and the streamer is live at that time, it will be very simple to jump to the live stream from the viewed clip.

This new Channel Switcher is one of the first missions for new Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, who recently commented on how pre-roll ads impede better channel discovery on the platform.

Twitch users were excited about the new channel discovery system and hope it rolls out to everyone soon.
