Twitch: Is this the end of pre-roll ads?
Currently in a new phase, with a new CEO, Twitch seems to finally be listening to the complaints of its users and is about to end the practice of ads before broadcasts on channels.
That’s right! The much-discussed and hated adt at the entrance of a Twitch-affiliated channel may be ending soon and the one who said that was the CEO of the platform, Dan Clancy.
Participating in the podcast “Spawn On Me”, broadcasted on video on Twitch, Dan Clancy commented on the future of pre-roll ads and confirmed that the practice will soon be just a bad memory on the platform.
“Since I look at a lot of channels, as opposed to the small amount I’m subscribed to, I see a lot of ads, because I’m moving around. In fact, I brought up your channel as we were going on. Because I thought let’s have that live so I can see chat, and I saw an ad,” said Dan Clancy, who continued:
“I don’t think that is the right experience when you’re trying to discover new content. When you are looking and are like ‘oh let me check this out’ and you are hit with an ad and that inhibits you from going and browsing new stuff.
We currently have some tests going and we’ll be rolling out some stuff soon that really leans away from pre-roll ads when people are in discovery mode.”
Despite the announcement, there is still no exact date for the new stuff to reach Twitch.
Ads are Twitch’s Achilles Heel
As the biggest live streaming platform for games today, Twitch is always under scrutiny and their practices towards creators have been heavily criticized, especially when it comes to ads.
Encouraging the setting of a longer duration of ads to receive a greater share of revenue from them, the Amazon platform has been trying to improve its ads practice on the channels, but without success. And the criticism continues to come like a Tsunami.
Will we have a change for the better soon?
