The war between live streaming platforms remains strong and every month we can see changes in content consumption by the audience on each of them. And in September, Twitch saw a drop in hours watched, falling below 1.7 billion for the first time in 2023.
The data was released by the website StreamsCharts, which found that, despite the decrease in hours watched, Twitch had an increase in streamer activity and peak audience in September.

Twitch numbers in September
As the largest live streaming platform in the world, Twitch is still far ahead of its competition, but it is already starting to see, even if subtly, a drop in its monthly results, which should be reflected in better performance from competing platforms, like Kick or YouTube.
But, while opponents of the Amazon platform continue to seek a place in the sun, Twitch remains big and concluded September with a total of 1.664 billion hours watched.
The number, although impressive, represents a 5% drop compared to the previous month and is the first time that Twitch has reached below 1.7 billion hours watched in 2023.
Despite this, the platform saw an increase in the maximum number of viewers, reaching 4,624,279, representing an impressive 13% growth compared to the previous month.
This number was mainly influenced by streamer Squeezie, who broadcast his GP Explorer 2 series and contributed 28.5% of Twitch’s peak viewers in September.
Streamer activity on Twitch also increased in September, with average live channels and peak live channels increasing in the ninth month of 2023.
Top games and streamers
Among the main games on Twitch in September, there is almost no news: GTA V remains in first place, followed, this time, by League of Legends and then Valorant.
The news is the arrival of EA Sports FC 24, the “successor” of the FIFA series. Launched in September, the new sports title debuted in 9th place among Twitch’s most popular games of the month, with a total of 34.52 million hours watched.
Among streamers, the Brazilian streamer Gaules returned to the top thanks to his Counter-Strike broadcasts. The streamer was the only one to have passed the 10 million hours watched mark in September.
