Twitch: GTA V boosts audience in December
After a year full of ups and downs, Twitch saw huge growth in its audience in December, thanks to GTA V and broadcasts of Christmas events, ending 2023 consolidated as the main platform for gaming live streaming today.
GTA V ends the year at the top
As one of the most beloved games of recent years, GTA V is always among the most popular titles on Twitch, but in December, thanks to the launch of a new GTA Online server and the arrival of the long-awaited trailer for GTA VI, the title of Rockstar Games has jumped to the top of Amazon’s live streaming platform.
The growth was significant. In December, GTA V reached almost 160 million hours watched, an increase of almost 60% compared to the month of November, when the game reached 100 million hours watched and appeared in fourth place among the most popular categories (third if we only count games).
The new GTA Online server generated so much interest from the international gaming community that Japanese streamer fps_shaka alone generated more than 10 million hours watched during a 10-day marathon of the game. He even led among streamers, with a total of 12.79 million hours watched.

The growth of Twitch in December
With GTA V and Christmas events boosting viewership, Twitch grew across the board in December.
In hours watched alone, according to data from the StreamsCharts website, the platform achieved a total of 1.79 billion, representing a growth of 4% compared to the month of November. Active channels continued to grow, reaching 5,115,086. The number is an increase of 8% compared to the previous month, which already recorded growth.
As a result, the number of viewers also increased and Twitch’s peak in December was 6,193,203, an increase of 47% compared to November.
The peak number of active channels was 250,095, an increase of 70% compared to the previous month.
Twitch’s impressive result in December consolidates the platform’s leadership in the live game streaming market and puts it in a great position for 2024.
