Twitch grew in number of active channels in 2023
Amid disputes with competing platforms, including Kick, which signed contracts with some of today’s biggest streamers, Twitch saw growth in its number of active channels in 2023.
Despite this, according to a report from the StreamsCharts website, Amazon’s live streaming platform lost in the number of hours watched, when compared to the 2022 results.
Twitch numbers in 2023
Competition with new and growing platforms, which want a share of the live game streaming market dominated by Twitch, has affected the performance of Amazon’s platform in 2023. And the numbers don’t lie.
According to the StreamsCharts report, Twitch ended 2023 observing a drop in the number of hours watched, Peak Viewers and Average Viewers, compared to 2022. The drop was, respectively, 6.8%, 6.8% and 5%.
The total number of hours watched on the platform was 20.912 billion, 77.3% of which were gamer content, consolidating Twitch as the main live game streaming platform in the world today.
Among the most watched games, the Top 5 were:
- GTA V
- League of Legends
- Valorant
- Counter-Strike
- Fortnite
More channels and the biggest streamers
Showing once again that more channels does not mean more audience, in 2023 Twitch, which lost in hours watched and average viewers, grew in active channels, reaching a total of 18,936,447 channels on the platform, an increase of 11.2% compared to 2022.
As a result, all numbers referring to channel activity on the Amazon platform grew in 2023, namely Peak Channels and Average Active Channels, which grew, respectively, 24.6% and 3.2%.
Without two of today’s biggest streamers in its lineup, xQc and Amouranth, Twitch saw a difference in the Top 10 of the year’s most popular streamers, with KaiCenat at the top, with 113.3 million hours watched.
Check out the Top 10:
