Twitch enforces ban on gambling games
Twitch is not happy with streamers showing gambling games on their platform, and to that end, the service has tightened the ban on these types of games in a recent update to its community guidelines.
With the explosion of these types of games, especially in the mobile field, with absurd promises of very high earnings with minimal investment, Twitch‘s concern about what its users watch has also grown and therefore a measure had to be taken quickly.
The update was announced by the Amazon streaming service on October 18th and is now live.
Now, games that include gambling machines, roulettes and dice games and that are not licensed in the United States or other countries, may cause a channel to be banned. Initially, Twitch announced that sites like Stake.com, duelbits.com, roobet.com, and Rollbit.com were the first to be banned from its platform.
According to them, all domains associated with these sites, including their variations, are also banned.
The prohibition even goes far beyond live streams: creators are also prohibited from sharing referral codes to betting sites with the chat, including a banner with links to these sites and mentioning live about betting sites.
Consequences for Twitch streamers
If they break Twitch‘s new community guidelines, streamers can be notified of these prohibited activities by the platform and even have their accounts permanently banned.
“We know this may be an adjustment for some [streamers] and will be levering warnings in addition to suspensions in applicable cases in order to be fairer to streamers who may not have understood the change yet,” Twitch explained in a statement.
While casino-style gambling sites are banned from Amazon’s streaming platform, it’s worth noting that sports betting sites are still allowed by Twitch.
