Twitch defends new revenue share for streamers

If you are a Twitch streamer, probably you are aware of all the criticism the Amazon platform is receiving after the decision to cut short the share revenue for the streamers. And even with all the negative comments, Twitch defends its decision.

In a new blog post, Twitch president Dan Clancy recognized the change and explained that there are still a streamers working with the previews revenue share of 70/30.

The change for the new share of 50/50, according to Dan, will happen gradually and will start after June 1, 2023.

“For these streamers still on these premium deals, we’re adjusting the deal so that they retain their 70/30 revenue share split for the first $100K [£88,144] earned through subscription revenue. Revenue above $100K will be split at the standard 50/50 share split”, Dan Clancy explained.

Still according to Dan, this change won’t affect around 90% of the streamers working with deals with premium subscription terms.

70/30 revenue share “is not viable” for Twitch

In another moment in the last few days, during a live stream from TwitchCon San Diego, Mike Minton, Twitch’s chief monetisation officer, spoke about the criticism received about the revenue share changes for the streamers.

“The important thing for me is that me and my teams are 100 per cent focused on improving your ability to make income. At the end of the day, we’re setting a framework for the long term so that you can all keep earning as long as possible and the next generation of streamers can have that same opportunity”, Mike Minton explained, and he continued:

“We did look at all possible options. Could we do it, could we offer 70/30 widely and broadly, and the answer is no. It simply is not viable for Twitch in the long term.”
