Twitch announces new tools: Stories and Discovery Feed

Another TwitchCon Europe has come to an end. In Paris, during the 8th and 9th of July, the world of live streaming was attentive to the event, which featured some of the biggest names in this community and announced some new tools for the Amazon platform, the main ones being: Stories and Discovery Feed.

In its opening presentation at the event, Twitch showed some of the new tools that come to the platform in order to improve the way new streamers are discovered by the audience.

Stories

No, you did not read it wrong. After rolling out to all Meta apps and so many other social networks, short videos with 24-hour visibility will now arrive on Twitch. And the functionality is the same.

Stories will only be available on the Twitch mobile app and will arrive on the platform in October.

With Stories, the streamer will be able to share other forms of content with their followers, which go far beyond live streaming and clips. And this content can either be made available to everyone or just to channel subscribers, creating yet another layer of benefits for the streamer’s most loyal audience.

See how it will work:

Discovery Feed on Twitch

The way in which new streamers are discovered by the audience on Twitch has always been something widely criticized by creators and users of the platform, but with the arrival of the new Discovery Feed, that could change.

Using the vertical clips created on Twitch itself, the user of the Amazon live streaming platform will now have one more way to reach a new streamer.

The Discovery Feed works similarly to other popular apps like TikTok and YouTube Shorts.

“Our focus is to help viewers discover your channel, so they join you and your community when you stream,” Twitch said on its social media. “Instead of just getting viewers to watch more Clips, we want them to watch more streamers. We’ll choose Clips based on how likely they are to bring new viewers to channels.”

With the Discovery Feed, the streamer will also have full control of their displayed content, being able to choose “Featured Clips” to be prioritized in the Discovery Feed.

The new functions are expected to start their testing phase in August, to be fully implemented for all Twitch users by the end of 2023.
