Twitch announces Hype Chat, a new monetization tool

Still under a lot of criticism due to its billing sharing policy with streamers, Twitch is moving quickly to try to solve these problems and reduce the large flow of creators migrating to Kick and, with that in mind, announced a new monetization tool: the Hype Chat.

According to Twitch, Hype Chat was created to highlight and pin messages on channels with accelerated chats, i.e. channels of large streamers. For this, the spectator “buys” the space for a certain amount.

Yes, Hype Chat works exactly like YouTube’s Super Chat and will be another monetization tool for channels on Amazon’s livestreaming platform.

About Twitch Hype Chat

Focused on channels with accelerated chats, Hype Chat will initially be available to Twitch partners. Just like bits, Hype Chat purchases happen directly on channels with the tool enabled.

The value chosen for Hype Chat will determine the look of the message, the number of characters available and the time it will remain in the channel. Higher values will stay fixed longer, have more characters and more striking visuals.

Values range from US$ 1 to US$ 500. The streamer can also define a minimum value for the Hype Chat of his channel.

Payment for Hype Chat can be made directly in the country’s currency, without the need to previously purchase Twitch Bits.

Hype Chat’s revenue split will be 70/30, after payment fees, that is, the streamer will keep 70% of the income generated by this new tool on Amazon’s livestreaming platform.

Extra security

As a feature that highlights Chat messages, Twitch has included Hype Chat in all of its community safety guidelines, such as:

Viewers will not be able to use Hype Chat with banned expressions, whether prohibited by Twitch as a whole or by the channel in question.
Messages sent by queued or banned users will be deleted from the queue.
All Hype Chat messages will be analyzed by AutoMod and the purchase will not be completed if AutoMod flags the message.
Streamers and channel moderators will be able to unpin Hype Chat messages that are deemed offensive.

Despite being an extremely positive new tool for better monetization of channels on Twitch, Hype Chat should not quickly solve the problem of sharing revenue on the Amazon livestreaming platform, still under much criticism, since Hype Chat will be available, initially, for a few streamers.
