Twitch adds new community moderation tool

Chat and community moderation is a very important part of a Twitch channel and, thinking about improving community protection, Amazon’s live streaming platform decided to add a new moderation tool.

Officially announced this Thursday (14), the new tool allows the sharing of information about a viewer’s ban between channels that have the moderation sharing option enabled.

“Streamers can now opt to share their channel’s mod comments with channels they’re sharing ban info with, providing extra context on why they banned certain users,” Twitch explained.

In practice, the tool enriches information between channels that share user ban data. For example:

If a user has been banned from Channel One for using inappropriate language, with sharing enabled with Channel Two, Channel One moderators can share comments to Channel Two moderators with reasons for banning a certain user.

This practice, according to Twitch, will help keep the platform’s entire community in an even safer environment, creating a kind of security information network between channels.

Moderation on Twitch

With the largest user base among live streaming platforms, Twitch still faces some weaknesses in terms of security and chat and community moderation, but it continues to implement new features to make the platform’s usability increasingly safer, both for the streamer and for the viewer.

And in order to further improve chat moderation, Twitch has also implemented a new shortcut to make it easier to activate Shield Mode.

Now, in the moderators’ panel, Shield Mode can be activated with just one click, through native integration with the moderation panel, without the need to browse the entire chat to activate the mode.

Shield Mode automatically activates security settings to block inappropriate messages, spam, and harassers.
