Top game streaming platforms in 2023

With the professional game streaming market constantly growing, the dream of making a living in this industry can come true and if you are thinking about starting to do live streaming, here we present the main game streaming platforms in 2023.

The choice of platform to broadcast your live game content can be decisive for the success of your channel, but the decision will really depend on personal taste, popularity and, of course, ease of monetization.

In this article, we bring information about the main game streaming platforms in 2023: Twitch, Facebook Gaming, YouTube Gaming and Trovo.

TWITCH

Twitch

The biggest and most popular: Twitch. Bought by Amazon in 2014, Twitch was one of the first game streaming platforms in the world and, therefore, is still the largest and most popular in the category.

With more than 15 million active channels, Twitch‘s service is completely free and its monetization option happens after the streamer meets some platform requirements, the main one being an average of 3 viewers in 30 days.

As the biggest and most popular, of course Twitch is also the most competitive game streaming platform today and finding your place among those millions of active channels can be a difficult but rewarding task.

As it is the most popular platform, all streaming software and compatible consoles already have an option to integrate with Twitch. There is also a software from the platform itself, to be used in the lives made by the PC.

FACEBOOK GAMING

Mark Zuckerberg’s bet for the game streaming market. Facebook Gaming is directly integrated into the largest social network on the planet, currently with 2.9 billion users, and that would be enough to guarantee a large audience, correct? Not so much.

Despite being on the rise, Facebook Gaming is still far from threatening Twitch’s reign. Facebook’s game streaming platform currently has over 550,000 active streamers and its peak viewers were 2.8 million in January 2021.

For monetization, Facebook Gaming offers the Level Up program, available to the creator after meeting certain requirements. Depending on the size of the channel and its average viewers, several content monetization tools are available.

YOUTUBE GAMING

Perhaps the fiercest platform in contention with Twitch, YouTube Gaming also relies on the already huge user base of YouTube, Google’s video platform. There are 2.5 billion users currently, but the audience of live broadcasts of games on the platform still does not threaten Twitch.

According to figures for the third quarter of 2022, YouTube Gaming gained an audience of 544,000 users. Although small compared to Twitch, the number demonstrates growth compared to the previous two quarters.

YouTube Gaming’s biggest problem, perhaps, is competition within Google’s own platform. As the largest video site on the planet, live streams compete for viewer attention with the platform’s massive video library. Even though YouTube Gaming has a separate section, it’s still pretty hard to compete with all that content.

The YouTube Gaming monetization system follows the same parameters as a normal YouTube channel, with the option of some tools for live broadcasts, such as Super Chat.

TROVO

Following the same pattern as Twitch, we have Trovo, a live streaming game platform from the Chinese giant Tencent Games.

Currently with more than 205,000 active channels, Trovo is also constantly growing and, as it gains more and more popularity, it also begins to automatically integrate with software and consoles to carry out live streamings.

The biggest attraction of Trovo, for sure, is the ease of monetization: since the beginning of the channel, the streamer can monetize its content with donations from viewers and also participate in campaigns, such as Trovo 500, which rewards with cash bonuses the most active and popular channels on the platform.

Trovo also has its own software for lives, only for mobile devices. Mobile content is also a strong point of the platform.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

With game streaming on the rise, everyone wants a piece of that market, and several other streaming platforms have emerged since the boom in the segment, during the most intense periods of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some of these new platforms could prove to be the perfect terrain for a new streamer to build their audience.
