Imagine returning to your city after three years. What in a normal story would be a return full of nostalgic and happy memories, in Thirsty Suitors this is very different, as his departure left behind many destroyed loving and family relationships.

But I’m getting too far ahead of myself. Thirsty Suitors proposes to be an RPG game with many mixes in the gameplay and with a story that is not exactly new, but which makes its mix have a different flavor.

In the game you control Jala Jayaratne, an American whose parents are from South Asia. Therefore, the game carries a lot of culture from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and others. Jala is returning after leaving her hometown three years ago, leaving a trail of many destroyed relationships, whether romantic or family. So right at the beginning she is faced with the challenge of facing her former romantic relationships and having to face her own family.

What seems very much based on the well-known comic book Scott Pilgrim: Against the World by Bryan Lee O’Malley, in Jala’s reality things go further where even her relationship with her parents is shaken by her sudden change. Then work begins to repair all the bonds that were shaken.

The gameplay mixes many different genres. In battles you have an RPG, where you fight against your opponents per turn, but there is a mechanic where it is recommended that the player provoke the enemy so that their skills cause more damage. There are several types of “elements” in the provocations and the effects are temporary, and as soon as the effect ends, the enemy becomes resistant and the player will have to discover the next weakness.

This ends up making the turn-based gameplay very fun, as there are many different dialogues that occur in boss battles and it hardly becomes repetitive. Another thing that also contributes to the variety are the items that are, for the most part, based on foods from the culture.

You fight against the characters of the small and peaceful town of Timber Hills, which despite being peaceful, has a lot going on in parallel with Jala’s mission that to complete the package, even the grandmother sent suitors to face her granddaughter so that she can get married, these are also enemies you face during the game. They are not mandatory, but there is a cash and experience reward for increasing the level.

The other gameplay that Thirsty Suitors presents is that one of the most practiced sports among young people in Timber Hills is skateboarding, so the character moves around the city and other maps doing tricks, scoring points and also doing specific missions to obtain items, cosmetics and also experience.

And remember I said that the items are cultural foods? The player can also cook these items at home that are part of a mini-game that, if all Quick Time Events are done correctly, can give an additional item with improved status.

Speaking of Quick Time Events, they are also present in turn-based battles where they can reduce the damage received from enemies, increase the damage of your attacks or improve the chances of taunts reaching enemies for a longer duration.

Thirsty Suitors mixture of gameplay is great for live streams

In short, it’s a very fun mix of gameplay that should be very interesting to broadcast on live streams, as there are a lot of funny dialogues taking place in battles or cooking with your family. The story can also captivate viewers’ attention as there are many topics discussed, which despite the game not going into much depth, can still leave whoever is watching or playing reflecting on the stories told by the characters.

Visually, the game has a very beautiful art style, with lots of vibrant colors and a design that really characterizes the characters in this mix of different cultures. Not only the visuals, but the soundtrack accompanies Jala’s entire journey very well.

Technically, the game in general did not present gameplay or graphics problems, which makes the gameplay more enjoyable, just a small detail in the Quick Time Events part where using the analog stick for some challenges may not be the best choice as I made a mistake several times. command because for some reason the game read a duplicate entry.

If there is a negative point, and I would say it is quite relative, it is the content after finishing the story, where there are few things to do, but which may be enough for those who like to complete all the challenges.
