The 5 biggest mobile games generated over $7 billion in revenue in 2022

The mobile games segment is one of the fastest growing in the video game industry and in 2022 alone, the 5 biggest mobile games generated, together, more than 7 billion dollars.

And, with the largest market in terms of number of users, China tops the list, with three of the biggest mobile games of the year being made in China.

According to market analysis company Sports Lens, the top 5 mobile games generated a total of 7.2 billion dollars in revenue in 2022. This number is 400 million higher than the previous year.

The Chinese giant Tencent is the standout company, with the two biggest games of the year in revenue: “Honor of Kings” and “PUBG Mobile”. The Top 3 is completed with “Genshin Impact”, by the also Chinese miHoYo.

  2. PUBG Mobile – $1.7 billion
  3. Genshin Impact – $1.5 billion
  4. Candy Crush Saga – $1 billion
  5. Roblox – $861.8 million
  6. Coin Master – $820.7 million
  7. Romance of the 3 Kingdoms – US$ 712.9 million
  8. Pokémon GO – $703.7 million
  9. Fantasy WestWard Journey – US$ 601 million
  10. Monster Strike – $589.9 million

In 2023, according to the Sports Lens website, the number of mobile game players should reach a total of 1.86 billion, with China leading in this segment, with the expectation of reaching the mark of 546 million users from the country.

For 2025, the expectation is that the number of global players will pass 2 billion.

In constant growth, the revenue from this market could reach 215 billion dollars by 2028, according to data from SkyQuest Technology Consulting.

With a total number of players that passes the billion mark, mobile games are also very attractive for streamers.

Twitch, the biggest game streaming platform today, has a software to make live streams directly from your smartphone or tablet, attracting players of these titles who also want to see themselves represented among content creators.

Trovo, the direct competitor of Twitch and owned by China’s Tencent, has an even greater focus on mobile gaming content, with its most watched content being titles released for iOS and Android devices.
