Super Mario RPG – Remake stands up to the original and shows that it’s possible to bring back great classics
In recent years, we’ve seen two sides of the same coin when it comes to reimaginations of previously released games. When done purely on the pretext of profiting from already well-known games and without taking into account the essence of the source material, the result can be disastrous. But we have good examples that show that when a remake is made with love, everything can be different.
Resident Evil 2 and 4 Remakes are two great examples of games that greatly improve the experience in these new versions and bring a new version while maintaining the essence of these journeys. Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled and the remakes of the Crash Bandicoot platformer trilogy and Spyro, all originally PS1 titles, are great examples of bringing franchises back, staying loyal to classic games and updating graphics and visuals.
Super Mario RPG – Remake: one of the greatest games, now improved
Among many other games, Super Mario RPG received a once unimaginable reimagination at the end of 2023, making it one of the great surprises of the gaming world. The original Super Nintendo version, for me, is one of the best entry-level games for players who haven’t had much experience with turn-based RPG games.
The remake, with improved gameplay, beautiful, cartoonish graphics and much brighter colors than the original version, as well as a remixed soundtrack, pays tribute to the original title.
The revisited version is much easier than the original, but it’s still just as much fun. Both those who have never played Super Mario RPG and those who have played the original version will have a great time.
This is a great game to livestream, even though it’s not translated into some languages, such as Brazilian Portuguese, it has a simple story and features classic characters from the Mario franchise in different situations than usual, as well as exclusive characters that only appear in this game, such as Geno and Mallow, thus involving the audience in a new journey with characters they already know and providing a satisfying gameplay with dynamic combat for a standard turn-based RPG.
Longer than the original, shorter in comparison to traditional RPGs
In terms of content, the remake of Super Mario RPG takes between 20 and 25 hours of gameplay to complete, a little longer than the original. It’s a slightly shorter RPG than the standard traditional RPGs, which can last between 30-50 hours or even more, but it’s a game that’s worthwhile for its purpose and is entertaining throughout its duration, without being tedious.
One flaw may be its difficulty, as it’s a very easy game, but with the aim of being a first entry RPG for those looking for something like this in the genre, it fulfills its role with honors.
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars – Remake
Summary
The remake of Super Mario RPG provides a great excuse to rescue the first RPG in the Mario universe, maintaining the essence of the main game with mechanics that make it even easier to play. Even though it doesn’t add any great new features, the game is still fun and has been made even more beautiful with this remake, showing that it’s possible to get it right with re-adaptations of great classics when they’re made with love and well aligned with the source material.
