Super Bomberman R 2 tries to improve on its predecessor, but fails to impress in its main campaign
Bomberman is a classic Hudson Soft franchise that has made its mark on gaming history, bringing with it the concept of blowing up blocks, defeating enemies and using different bombs to advance through the levels, as well as the difficulty of its boss battles, which were always great, some of them challenging.
After Konami bought Hudson Soft, the franchise was somewhat forgotten and was brought back with Super Bomberman R, which was the first major attempt to revive this video game franchise giant again.
Super Bomberman R 2 brings improvements to the franchise
Then came the sequel Super Bomberman R 2, precisely because it was an attraction, even for live streams, because it was a classic character and a game that everyone knows and recognizes from different eras and times, thus generating curiosity in viewers and a subject to remember all the insertions of Bomberman in the history of games, which had many games over the course of the consoles.
It’s unavoidable to compare the R 2 sequel with its predecessor, and the main impact is in the graphics, which are much prettier than those of the previous game, as well as a more adjusted gameplay and a great emphasis on the online mode adjusted for this.
As Bomberman’s main emphasis is on having fun with friends and playing with and against them, the coop multiplayer or online duel is a strong feature of this new title, although it doesn’t bring any new modes or major innovations compared to the previous title.
Campaign mode is interesting, but can get boring with time
The new title also features a campaign mode, more focused on exploration and increasing your character’s power as you collect experience across the map, something different from the standard gameplay of classic Bombermans.
Despite the interesting idea and the well-applied exploration, the game gets boring over time and seems more like an opportunity to apply a story mode to connect the Bomberman characters to a more childish audience.
As such, Super Bomberman R 2 is attractive for being a new game in a classic franchise, but it doesn’t offer enough content for the price it’s being offered for, where the main campaign is very simple and the main improvements enhance the online mode, but don’t bring any great new features to the Bomberman formula and don’t make it worth the full price charged for the game.
The game’s performance, which I tested on the PC version, is well optimized and can be experienced by other streamers, and the online mode isn’t unstable or anything like that.

Super Bomberman R 2
Summary
Super Bomberman R 2 is not a perfect game and could do more justice to the Bomberman franchise, but it does bring improvements compared to the first title in the Bomberman R series. The online mode has been improved, although without any innovations, while the campaign mode is unfortunately very boring and exhausting because it repeats a lot of the same mechanics, although it’s not bad. Also noteworthy are the improved graphics, the game is much more impressive and eye-catching compared to its predecessor. However, compared to its full price, it’s not worth it considering all the content it offers.
I have 25 years, I produce content to internet for 4 years and I like retro games, indies and I’m an enthusiast for new launches. I have as my favorite games Donkey Kong Country 2, Super Mario World, Hollow Knight and Red Dead Redemption II, per example. I like to experiment everything and the more, the better, but I never get sick of my comfort games!
