Speed Crew

Speed Crew: multiplayer fun is guaranteed

The success of games like Overcooked, party games with endless possibilities for cooperative multiplayer fun, spawned several other titles that drink from the same source. And one of these titles is Speed Crew, which brings guaranteed multiplayer fun in a universe where a pit stop team of racing circuits is the focus.

Lead your team to victory in Speed Crew

The premise of Speed Crew is quite simple: you’re part of a pit stop racing team and you need to carry out certain repair and maintenance procedures on the cars to help your team reach victory.

The gameplay is heavily inspired by titles like Overcooked: there are a series of actions that need to be done as quickly as possible to ensure that your team earns more points and finishes the championship in front.

With an intense and frantic gameplay, especially in the later levels, Speed Crew can be a good choice for a live stream, since it can be responsible for very funny moments and that the audience can be very engaged, especially by creating fun clips.

Focus is on multiplayer, but solo players can enjoy it too

Despite being a game where its main focus is the cooperative multiplayer experience, both local and online, Speed Crew can also be quite fun for a solo player, especially for those with great memory and time and task management.

There is a story mode, where the player, solo or with friends, leads his team to victory through four different championships, each set in a different decade.

This temporal setting brings new cars and new tasks to be completed in each of the levels, which get more and more difficult.

Here’s where it can get a little complicated for those trying out the game alone: the levels, especially those at more advanced levels, were clearly designed for a multiplayer dynamic. The solo player, in these phases, can be a little stunned with so much to do and even lose a lot of time, making it difficult to get a better ranking result. That said, make no mistake: it might be difficult for a solo player, but it’s not impossible.

One problem, for solo players, might be the repetition. Actions, once at more advanced levels, can end up becoming monotonous for those playing alone and this can be reflected in a live stream.

Online and offline

As the focus is on multiplayer, Speed Crew brings the options to play with friends in both offline and online local multiplayer. If played on Nintendo Switch, as we did, multiplayer gameplay is facilitated with Nintendo’s hybrid console joycons.

The experience, in both cases, is quite fun and here it is worth mentioning what may be, perhaps, the only negative point of Speed Crew: the lack of the possibility to play online with random players. After all, not everyone has enough friends with the game, or even online at the same time, to close a group and enjoy the intended multiplayer experience with this title.

For a live stream, online multiplayer, integrated with voice chat from apps like Discord, can result in moments of extreme fun, both for players and for the audience.

Worth a try!
