Selfloss: A Story of Mourning Told Through Distinctive Gameplay
Selfloss is an indie release on September 2024 and focuses mainly on exploration with a lot of emphasis on its story, inspired by Slavic culture, building this world around the gameplay of an elderly healer who performs healing rituals for deceased souls, also helping living creatures in their mourning process, hence the name of the game, Selfloss.
Selfloss is a Captivating Top-Down Adventure
Focused on a game with mainly combat and puzzles in a top-down view, it excites and stitches together its elements very well, as well as entangling itself well in this atmosphere and keeping the player’s curiosity alive.
Atmospheric, Short, and Captivating Despite Limited Replayability
The game’s campaign isn’t that long and can be completed in between 5 and 10 hours (depending on the pace of each player and the objectives they want to accomplish during the gameplay). It doesn’t have much of a replay factor, which may be a problem for some, but it achieves the focus of the game very well, which is a good argument in itself.
Versatile Staff Mechanics in Selfloss Brings it to Life
The use of the staff to interact with the world around you, solve puzzles and be able to walk around the world and also paddle through the waters of the game, wander through an afterlife and discover more of the main character’s own journey, in a game shrouded in mystery, emotion and other nuances, makes the gameplay not tedious.
In terms of localization, as a Brazilian gamer, I missed a translation into Brazilian Portuguese, but the game doesn’t have a very complex vocabulary for translating the game itself, it’s not boring and, as it’s shorter, it wouldn’t be a big problem that would prevent you from enjoying the story more.
Selfloss has great ideas and is a game that’s different from the usual, it doesn’t stand out in terms of engagement but it attracts attention for its beauty, its story, its different gameplay and it certainly attracts attention with its inspirations and emotions.

I have 25 years, I produce content to internet for 4 years and I like retro games, indies and I’m an enthusiast for new launches. I have as my favorite games Donkey Kong Country 2, Super Mario World, Hollow Knight and Red Dead Redemption II, per example. I like to experiment everything and the more, the better, but I never get sick of my comfort games!
