Sandwalkers

Sandwalkers is a beautiful but unpolished adventure

In Sandwalkers you control a caravan in a post-apocalyptic world, where its inhabitants have no memory of the world before the disaster, thus making these caravans your only chance to find out more about history and also discover technologies and improvements.

A challenging adventure from the start

Sandwalkers is not an easy game, in which you can be defeated in less than 10 minutes of you first run. It may frustrate some players, especially with its absurd amount of text, information and management.

Here we have a procedurally generated world, where after choosing the initial members of your caravan, you explore your world, where every move matters, whether it’s your consumption of resources when you move around, or taking care of your team when you get into unnecessary fights where you can quickly be defeated if you’re careless.

I think I made it clear how punishing the game is right from the start, and this was something that discouraged me from wanting to play more, I think that for a game with so many mechanics and management, having a more accessible difficulty curve would attract more players by not having to lose its difficulty, but giving the beginning player room to learn all the mechanics before venturing into frustrating situations.

Especially as it’s such a complex game, it’s not easy for a newcomer to get to grips with its mechanics, and it takes a considerable amount of time for the streamer to learn more about, making his gameplay a little tiring to watch.

Sandwalkers

Visually, Sandwalkers is a spectacle

On the other hand, its visual side is impressive, no less than I expected coming from Globinz Studio, I covered one of their previous games “Legends of Keepers” which also has very unique and very well animated pixel art, and the same applies here, already being something eye-catching for the streamer, the art being something that will surely catch the public’s attention.

Both its setting and its combat and events have a lot of charm, with their varied and unique characters and a desert full of content, enemies and ruins of the ancient world. It never gets boring to explore.

Sandwalkers

Combat is simple, but it works well

Here we have combat like a turn-based RPG, where each character has a turn depending on their speed, not as complex in its moves, but totally functional and doesn’t try to overcomplicate the gameplay. However, some of the information about the moves is confusing, especially when played in my native language, due to translation problems, I believe.

This is another factor that could put the public off, whether as gamers or streamers, after all, being a very complex game combined with a problematic translation will make it difficult to enjoy the experience.

Tested on PC via Steam, the game don’t need a powerfull pc and accessible to run on various machines of different configurations. It’s available in 9 languages, but there were a lot of problems in my native language, Brazilian Portuguese, where the translation switched to French and the interface was in English.

Summary

Overall, Sandwalkers still needs a lot of polishing. It overwhelms the player with too much right away, something that didn’t hook me unlike its predecessor, “Legend of Keepers”, which despite having a lot of management, has a better learning curve.
