Every videogame is inspired by other works, whether in style, format or genre. Raccoo Venture pays complete homage to 3D platformers, a genre that deserves recognition for having evolved mechanics that were only possible in 2D platformers and for maintaining the fun of what we had on the older consoles.

Being able, in 2024, to experience a game with such structural inspirations and references on an already well-established gameplay base makes the Brazilian gaming scene proud of one of its mainly 3D platform games.

Raccoo Venture is linear, challenging and full of collectibles

Raccoo Venture offers unexpected but mostly fair challenges, making it a very interesting game to stream. In each stage you have to look for two chess pieces, the game’s collectibles, and four board pieces (the board pieces unlock the second chess piece).

Being a linear game with so many secrets and a platformer that clearly takes its inspiration from Mario 64 and Crash Bandicoot, and shows them off with so much personality and charisma, makes the game a real showpiece for any player and for streamers to present to their communities.

That said, the game may not stand up on its own in a broadcast because it’s a combination of things that have already been seen and shown in other 3D platform games. It’s unique and it holds up as a game idea, but in a livestream it might not be as interesting on its own as a full gameplay, or maybe it would be if it were presented in smaller doses so as not to bore those watching.

It’s a game that’s been made with care and you can see that, but it can bore those who are playing as much as those who are watching if played during large sessions.

Not everything is perfect

The official release of Raccoo Venture was in December 2023, which means that it has even more potential in 2024 as one of the leading recent indies, not only on the Brazilian market, but also among the latest releases.

However, the game does have its flaws, such as an inconsistent difficulty curve and the imprecise collision of some items, to hit enemies and some obstacles. The duration of the game, for the price and what it offers, can vary between those players who try to collect everything and others who just want to go through stage by stage.

I estimate between 6-8 hours for those who just want to complete the game by getting what they need and something like 10 hours for those who try to get all the collectibles and/or even complete all the game’s achievements.

Even so, it may not seem like much compared to other more recent 3D platformers and the game doesn’t offer a great replay factor, but it certainly makes the fun worthwhile within those hours put into the game, despite the great difficulty curve as you go through the 5 worlds the game has.

In terms of performance, the game doesn’t require any major requirements to enjoy the journey and runs on more modest computers, so it’s possible to have a good experience and recommend it even to that friend who’s looking for a game but doesn’t have the best computer in the world.
