Project Tower: The Demo Version is promising, but it needs a lot more refinement
As a fan of games with innovative mechanics and unique concepts, it was a real pleasure to diving into the demo of Project Tower, a third-person “Bullet Hell” game that offers a fresh take on the genre. I should say that this review is based on the demo version, so my impressions are of a preliminary product which can, and probably will, change as the game progresses towards full release.
Deal with the enemies in a unique way
One of the features of the game which most stood out for me is its intriguing concept of how to deal with enemies. The player can assume the forms of different enemies to overcome environmental challenges.
This mechanic isn’t just limited to regular enemies; you can even take the form of some bosses to gain an edge in battles. This merging ability adds a layer of strategic depth to the gameplay, encouraging players to think creatively about how to approach various obstacles and combat scenarios.
The game proudly embraces its “Bullet Hell” identity. It reminds me of games like “Returnal.” with its frenetic action, dodging, and shooting. The rapidity of the action provide an exhilarating experience which keeps you on your toes.
Despite only having access to two weapons in the demo – a pistol and an SMG – the combat felt very engaging. I look forward to the fun provided by other weapons in the full release, but even now, the battles are not at all shabby. The simple controls make it easy to pick up and play, even for those who might not be familiar with the genre.
The limitations of the Demo Version of Project Tower
At the moment, and because it’s a demo, Project Tower does have its limitations. The environment is very basic, and is clearly designed to showcase the core mechanics rather than the final visual and design elements.
This makes it difficult to fully judge the game’s potential in terms of aesthetic appeal and world-building. Additionally, the character you control still feels somewhat nameless and blank, which I think does detract a bit from the players’ overall immersion.
In terms of negatives, it’s crucial to remember that this is an early glimpse of what Project Tower aims to be. Despite being a pleasure to play, I would say that the demo is incomplete and not yet fit for streaming or extensive audience engagement.
Streaming the game in its current state might not provide the best experience for viewers, as the demo lacks the polish and content which many members of the audience might require to maintain interest. However, once the full version is released, I think it will become an exciting part of any streamer’s lineup.
Here’s a breakdown of the demo’s performance as I experienced it. Again, this relates to the demo only, the final product isn’t out yet:

I think Project Tower shows a great deal of promise with its unique merging abilities and bullet hell gameplay. While the demo provides a tantalizing glimpse of what could be, it does highlight places for development and refinement. I’m looking forward to seeing how the game evolves, while hoping and expecting that the final version will fully realize its potential. For now, it’s a very interesting concept which promises a good deal of fun which the release should deliver.
