One year of Kick
Kick turned one year old! Yes, the platform that offers better revenue divisions and wants to take a large share of Twitch‘s audience, this December celebrates one year since its official launch and the celebration is full of great achievements and great growth.
Kick’s first year
Officially operating since December 2022, it was actually in January 2023 that Kick began to be widely talked about in the live streaming community.
Supported by Adin Ross, one of the first streamers to receive a major contract and is the platform’s main spokesperson, Kick is based on investment from the website Stake.com, one of the main Online Casino platforms.
This relationship has even generated a lot of controversy, since “gambling” broadcasts are prohibited by Twitch and have gained safe ground on Kick.
This investment, however, helped the platform hire some of today’s biggest streamers, such as xQc and Amouranth, taking them away from Twitch and thus attracting their loyal audience to Kick.
A multimillion-dollar strategy that has been yielding good results for Kick.
Big streamers and audience growth
According to data from the website StreamsCharts, Kick is still far from being a threat to Twitch in terms of total hours watched on the platform, but its growth in just one year of launch, thanks to large contracted streamers, has already put it on par with other platforms, such as NimoTV and AfreecaTV.
And the growth of Kick’s audience is directly linked to the arrival of major streamers on the platform.
There were 779.3 million hours watched in its first year, with the best month being September, when the platform gained a record 981.3 thousand viewers and 106.04 million hour watched, the platform’s biggest peaks to date.
When it comes to active channels, Kick’s growth was impressive, going from 8.7 thousand to 141.7 thousand per month. The largest of the channels, of course, is still Adin Ross’s, which totaled 56.4 million hours watched in the first 12 months of the platform.
Online Casino and Games
With distribution of 95% of ad revenue to streamers and the promise of greater clarity in community guidelines regarding content allowed on the platform, Online Casino and gambling broadcasts on Kick are strong and, in fact, it is the second most popular category on the platform, second only to “Just Chatting”.
Among games, Kick’s first year crowned GTA V as the most popular on the platform, gaining 32.44 million hours watched. The Rockstar Games title was closely followed by Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0.
For 2024, Kick still has a lot of work to do to solidify the platform as a safe and profitable ground for streamers and a great place for viewers to follow their favorite content creators.
New contracts are expected for next year and, if everything goes the way Kick hopes, 2024 could see a big change in the live streaming market and we can’t wait to see what happens.
