New Arc Line: Early Access Journey into a World of Magic vs. Technology

As a Dungeons and Dragons starter, but still a player who likes the ideas and media based on this world, I find it incredible that so many good games are appearing to please the public and attract new players. New Arc Line is in early access and already has a lot of concrete concepts of what it wants to offer, although many of them aren’t even close to being finished yet, but it’s already showing a glimpse of what could be a promising game.

I’d like to warn you that as this is an early access game, many of the things covered in this review may change, as this means that the title is still in development.

From a Slow Start to Thoughtful Choices in New Arc Line

In New Arc Line you get off to a rather dull start, where you walk through what appears to be a city destroyed by dragons and as you interact with posters, items and characters you discover that you are somehow responsible for this destruction.

Although it’s slow, it’s interesting to see how the developers have inserted the idea of how you can interact with various situations and the conclusions of your decisions influenced by your abilities. There are moments when you wonder what the outcome would be if you had a character with more athletic expertise, but we’re talking about a CRPG where, in normal situations, there’s no way you can master all the areas right from the start of the game.

Right, but after this start, you’re introduced to a situation where you end up finding out more about the situation and who you are in the middle of all this mess in a trial and the defendant is you. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but although I personally find it a bit cliché, it’s the part where you probably shape your personality during the game’s story. Here is the beginning of a powerful potential to perhaps reverse the situation later on in the game or when the game is finished. Not only in this scene, but the whole game shows you how to observe what situation the NPCs are in, because their mood also affects the outcome of their decisions.

Early Customization Shines, Gameplay Offers Familiarity with Unique Mechanics

Visually the game doesn’t impress me, but for a game still in early access it already has plenty of character customization options, and they’re not horrible models to choose from, which is good because it’s already a great start to improving even more, as players of this type of game love lots of options for customizing their character.

In terms of gameplay, if you’ve played Baldur’s Gate 3 you won’t find many differences when controlling the character. Of course, the game diverges a lot more when you delve into the mechanics, where the characters have an armor bar and in order to deal HP damage, you have to exhaust that bar first. It’s a different idea, but one that will need a lot of balancing, as each turn this bar is restored. It sounds complicated, but the game does a good job of explaining it gradually.

New Arc Line is Perfect for Streaming to Genre Enthusiasts

So far in this review, New Arc Line is proving to be a lot of fun and shows that if put to good use, there’s a lot of good content to be released in the future. For those who create content on streaming platforms, the game can offer many hours of entertainment. Of course, it’s not common for audiences to like this genre, but if that’s not a problem for you, go ahead and enjoy!

I didn’t encounter any problems playing, but on the localization side the game only has one language available and that can be a barrier.

That said, I don’t want to spoil the surprises that the game holds and I strongly recommend that you play, stream or even watch it before buying the New Arc Line.

Summary

New Arc Line takes inspiration from many good foundations and shows creativity in implementing them into a different story. The game also shows care in presenting the different ideas it wants to address in the experience without overwhelming the player. I highly recommend it if you’re a fan of the genre.
