Musashi vs Cthulhu (MxC) is a fast-paced action game where you control Musashi, the famous warrior from feudal Japan, fighting for his life against unspeakable monsters due to a terrible curse.


Gameplay mechanics, simple at heart

Musashi vs Cthulhu is an arcade-style score attack game. Enemies come from either direction and must be killed with a strike to a weak point. The player can’t move except during an attack, so the core gameplay is carried out with six buttons: High, medium and low attacks to the left and right. And that’s pretty much it – like any good arcade game, the mechanics are simple at heart.

Musashi vs Cthulhu is about precision

The game is about precision. An attack that misses the weak point or hits nothing will leave the player off balance and vulnerable to attack. This means that button mashing won’t work here. There are additional benefits to perfect precision, including extra points and a shield that will ward off a single hit.



A single run through this game will last as long as the player can survive. The difficulty ramps up quickly, with enemies coming faster and faster. After a minute or so, the player will start to encounter advanced enemy types who take multiple hits, have multiple weak points or teleport when struck.

Musashi vs Cthulhu is easy to drop into a stream rotation, but the brevity of each run means it’s not going to work for long sessions. It might be best used as an opener or palate cleanser – something dynamic to mix things up from time to time.
