Manor Lords

Manor Lords city building tests your ability to build a great city

Manor Lords is not a game for the causal player; if you’ve played Banished, Players of Egypt, Patron and Foundation then you’ll be aware that building a Medieval City is not as easy as it looks.

Make sure your people is happy

From making sure that your citizens don’t enter into starvation to ensuring farms are fully stocked and livestock is grown, these are the key elements of making a thriving Medieval City. After all, you don’t want your peasants and new settlers to not find a town without a tavern and find nothing to eat or drink?

This is the replayability that Manor Lords offers. You create your narrative in building your large town. And from that humble settler’s camp allows the establishment of the greatest city of your dreams. But be warned, this is only the growth mode.

You can also build an army in Manor Lords

For extra difficulty, you could play with bandits raiding your town, or play with other competing cities that will try and steal your lands. That is when you raise your peasants into an army, and those peasants come from skilled families that hunt your livestock, cut down wood for your city, and farm fields. These are peasants you want in your army who are highly trained and do not simply waste them in battle itself.

Manor Lords

Manor Lords is an early access game with limited features like stone walls, cathedrals, and stone-style houses. It lacks full modding tools, which could be beneficial for transforming the game into Medieval Japan or Lord of the Rings.

Despite occasional failures, the game’s soundtrack and ambience make it immersive, allowing players to create a city worthy of a Medieval Warlord. For one developer to have worked so many years on this game counts as a testament to the wonder that is the Indie Gaming scene now. It is worth streaming.
