Madzik: A narrative hack-and-slash with a nostalgic 80s feel
Madzik is a narrative hack and slash with two difficulties: normal and difficult. We follow the game’s scripted adventures, alternating between two characters named Makino and Veroline.
Diverse Enemies and Dynamic Combat Zones
The game is divided into several episodes, each with a specific objective, and each episode features several combat zones. We’ll have to face many different enemies. For example, there will be spell casters, stronger and more resistant enemies, and enemies who can’t fall.
In each combat zone, there may be different effects generated dynamically thanks to the moons, such as snow—which means our heroes will slide, fire—which means flames on the ground, etc.
Madzik Transformations and Hero Mechanics
Let’s talk about the heroes. We can switch between the 2 heroes at any time. On the one hand, we have Makino, who specializes in close combat and can take a lot of damage while driving into enemy lines.
On the other, we’ll have Veroline, a spell-caster who can do a lot of zone damage or control enemies.
During battles, the heroes will store energy called Madzik, and when the gauge is full, our heroes will transform and gain new skills. Makino will transform into a ferocious beast that will pounce on enemies to slash them with its claws, while Veroline will call upon her dark side to strike down her enemies.
Stores, Bonuses, and Skill Unlocks
Occasionally, between or at the end of combat zones, a store will appear. During battles, we’ll earn gold, which will enable us to buy bonuses limited to a certain number of combat zones in this store. For example, we’ll be able to increase the amount of gold we’ve recovered, boost our damage, or get a shield to protect us.
Once the episode is over, or at certain points during the episode, we can return to our ship. In the latter, we’ll be able to use the gold we’ve earned to unlock new active skills for each character, from a total of 18, or passive skills for the 20 characters.
You’ll have to choose which active skills to use, as we’re limited to 3 of these skills in combat.
You’ll be able to replay old episodes to improve your score, or try out new combos or skills.
From a streamer’s point of view, you can consult with your community to find the most destructive combos, as well as carry out various tests. You can also play multiplayer via Steam Remote Play Together.
