Lethal Company doesn’t take itself too seriously – and that’s why the game is so much fun
Multiplayer games are an attraction in their own way, especially considering the possibility of online gameplay and interaction between other players. This has been a reality for a long time, but considering the last few years, it has intensified even more in recent times, with non-standard multiplayer titles gaining a place in a once well-established market, and here enters Lethal Company.
Games such as Fall Guys, Among Us, Phasmophobia and variations have gained a reputation for their multiplayer gameplay with groups of people, each with its own unique gameplay and possibilities, whether for competition or cooperation.
Phasmophobia, for example, is the one that relies most on interaction in this sense, where 4 players have to discover paranormal threats together. Combining elements of a horror game with cooperative multiplayer, the game was a great success at the end of 2020 and showed a possible scenario for even established franchises to emerge with similar titles, such as The Outlast Trials, released in the middle of 2023, an alternative to an already established horror franchise and enabling interaction between other players.
Small developer, great success
Within this context, Lethal Company, released in October 2023, is a surprise hit for being a game from a smaller developer with elements that are very reminiscent of the now well-established Phasmophobia: cooperation between four people, different scenarios and imminent dangers.
This time, however, the mission takes place on other planets and the task is to collect resources for a company that has employed you. If you reach the collection quota within the working days, you and your company colleagues continue in the game, if not…
With a simple premise, but with different monsters, scenarios that vary and a game that is still in early access and is being updated little by little, Lethal Company is an excellent choice for a livestream, both for the amount of content that can be generated and interactions with friends, other streamers and players and for the simplicity of a game that works in co-op and is, quite simply, fun.
Perhaps its only setback for a broadcast is the fact that it’s a horror game, with jumpscares and situations that can lead to jumpscares, and not everyone enjoys games of this genre.
Lethal Company brings horror with sense of humor
Despite being considered a horror game and having its tension, it’s a game that makes fun of itself, is funny because of the context in which it places the players, has an interesting immersion and at the same time gives players the freedom to strategize as they see fit, as long as they get out alive and collect as many resources as possible to continue.
The in-game voice system works by proximity, which increases the game’s immersion factor and is fundamental to the functionality of its mechanics: if you die, those who are alive can’t hear you, so the tension is created not only by the enemies on the map, but by the situation of not knowing whether your fellow party members are alive or not.
As it is a multiplayer game that is still being updated, the replay factor of this game is vast and the price is worth it, especially if you are looking for a different game to play with friends. The community is already passionate and the developers allow mods, as well as actively listening to players and updating the game, which allows the game experience to survive for some time.
The game doesn’t require much from PC requirements, making it an accessible option even for those friends who don’t have the most powerful computer.
Lethal Company
Summary
Lethal Company isn’t technically the most perfect game in the world, but it has qualities that are necessary in a game and that need to be highlighted: it brings something that the consumer public wants to play, a different, simple, accessible and fun cooperative multiplayer option and it’s a game that engages and generates content for streams with absurd ease. It’s one of those games that aren’t just there as a background in a stream, the viewer is actively engaged and curious about what’s going to happen next. Despite being a genre that not everyone likes and a game that still doesn’t have all the possible content because it’s in Early Access, its recent success is justified and well-deserved.

I have as my favorite games Donkey Kong Country 2, Super Mario World, Hollow Knight and Red Dead Redemption II, per example. I like to experiment everything and the more, the better, but I never get sick of my comfort games!
