League of Legends: What’s Next

As the year 2023 draws to a close, League of Legends prepares to begin another season in its 10+ year history and Riot Games‘ title has revealed what’s to come for the rest of the year and the start of 2024.

New things still in 2023

Despite Riot Games already preparing for the 2024 season of League of Legends, there is still a lot to come for today’s most popular MOBA in 2023.

For starters, the pre-season: Now, the current season will run until January 3rd, 2024 with the pre-season taking place on the PBE, the League of Legends test server, starting in November of this year. The pre-season arrives on the game’s main server in January 2024, along with the release of Ranked and the eSports season.

“We’re looking at terrain adjustments to parts of Summoner’s Rift, changes to map objectives and significant modifications to the item system,” said Pu Liu, Director of League of Legends.

One of the most beloved game modes for League of Legends players will temporarily return to the game. Yes, we are talking about the Nexus Blitz!

The mode arrives at the Riot Games MOBA in October 2023 and will come exactly as players remember and love, but with a few tweaks to suit the game’s current scenario.

Nexus Blitz was released in League of Legends in 2018, featuring a 5v5 dispute, with 2 junglers and 3 laners, on an exclusive map that also features some mini-games that yield bonuses for the winning team.

The End of Mythic Items

One such already announced pre-season change is the end of Mythic items. Introduced to the game in 2021, Riot Games was dissatisfied with the way these items changed the game’s meta.

Earlier this year we said we weren’t really happy with how Mythic Items landed and that we were open to removing the system entirely if the changes implemented didn’t bring us closer to where we wanted to be. Well, they didn’t. So starting in January of 2023, Mythic Items will be removed from League of Legends,” explained the game’s director.

Despite the announcement, some mythical items will remain, presented as game options.
