Kokoro Clover Season 1: When charisma is the strong point of a work

There are indie games that try to attract audiences with their retro aesthetics and gameplay from the past. Kokoro Clover Season 1 does that, but not just with games, but also with its retro anime theme.

Kokoro Clover is a side-scrolling platform game, released for PC and Nintendo Switch, which simulates the adventure of an anime character from the 90s and 2000s, inspired by the works of “Mahou Shoujos”, like Sakura Card Captors.

But don’t be fooled if you think this similarity is only in the artistic design because Kokoro Clover simulates the experience of watching an anime episode, with the opening, TV commercial in the middle of the stage (even advertising for the Switch version of the game) and an ending at the end of the stage. In addition to containing a friendly, cute, and relaxed mood.

A platform game without complexity and great for chilling out

Kokoro Clover is a platform game that doesn’t focus on difficulty but on the simplicity of its beautiful art and beautiful campaign mode that consists of 12 levels, portraying an anime season.

You control Treffy, who has the power to join different Spirits that help her during the stages, with different effects, and that you unlock as you progress in the story.

These stages basically consist of moving forward, jumping across platforms, facing different enemies, collecting coins (which can be used to unlock some extras, such as artwork, new dance animations, etc.) and reaching the boss at the end of the level.

In addition to the “Campaign” mode, the game contains two more modes: “Adventure” and “Boss Rush”. In the first one, we play different stages of the Campaign, in a direct way (without a story being told), where you go through the stage until you reach the boss. And the second is the classic Boss Rush mode, where you face several game bosses in a row.

“Kokoro Clover”: It’s simple to stream and engage the audience

Kokoro Clover

For this review, the PC/Steam version was analyzed. Because it’s a low-spec game, it’s very easy to stream. You don’t have to worry about having an advanced setup or complex configurations.

The diversity of modes makes it easy to choose how to engage with your audience. Does your audience like a campaign with a charismatic story? Story Mode is perfect for this. Do they prefer something more direct? You can try Adventure mode or Boss Rush mode. Regardless of the modes you choose, it will continue to be a very beautiful and charismatic game.

On the other hand, being a game from a Japanese indie company, it is very limited in language options, containing only Japanese and English. So, keep that in mind when you check it out.
