In May, Twitch saw a drop in its number of channels and viewers

Still a leader in the live streaming segment of gamer content, Twitch saw a drop in its number of channels and viewers and a modest growth in the total number of hours watched in May 2024.

According to data released by the website StreamsCharts, Twitch recorded a total of 1.630 billion hours watched in May, an increase of just 0.2% compared to April.

While Peak Viewers also rose a modest 0.4%, reaching 4,060,749, Amazon’s live streaming platform saw a drop in its number of Active Channels and Average Viewers, reaching 4,451,472 and 2,324,723, respectively. The numbers represent a drop of 4.8% and 0.8%, respectively.

The factors for this drop could be several, with the StreamsCharts website pointing mainly to seasonal changes, as summer is arriving in the northern hemisphere and, as a result, people are starting to engage more in activities outside their homes.

The drop in Twitch’s results in several metrics evaluated by the website StreamsCharts does not mean that competition with other platforms, such as Kick, is taking effect and putting the hegemony of the Amazon platform in the live streaming market at risk.

Other Twitch numbers:

Peak Channels: 139,281 (-8%)

Average Channels: 90,411 (-5.4%)

Games broadcast: 41,734 (-2.4%)
