Hogwarts Legacy sets new Twitch record

As one of the most anticipated games of recent years, “Hogwarts Legacy” has finally been released, currently in early access, and has already proven to be a huge success, setting a new record on Twitch.

In early access since this Tuesday (07), for those who bought the deluxe version of the game, “Hogwarts Legacy” attracted a lot of attention on Twitch and reached a peak audience of more than 1.2 million users.

This number surpasses “Cyberpunk 2077”, which peaked at 1.1 million users in viewership, and with that, “Hogwarts Legacy” becomes the highest peaking single-player game on Twitch. Overall, the game ranks 11th in peak viewership on Amazon’s streaming platform.

Among the streamers who played “Hogwarts Legacy”, the biggest one was xQc. The Canadian streamer, currently the biggest on Twitch, reached a peak audience of more than 129,000 users during his live game, according to data from the StreamsCharts website.

The “Hogwarts Legacy” Controversy

Despite the great success on streaming platforms, the release of “Hogwarts Legacy” is shrouded in much controversy and even boycott campaigns, all thanks to transphobic comments from J.K. Rowling, author of “Harry Potter”, universe in which the game is set.

The author does not hide her prejudiced comments and is always posting something full of transphobia on social networks, attracting more and more controversy for her person and her work.

Streamers from the LGBTQIA+ community, especially transgender people, call for a boycott of the game, even though they are fans of the “Harry Potter” franchise, as a way of showing the author that her words hurt people and perpetuate hatred and violence.

Trying to appease the spirits a little, the developers have already warned that J.K. Rowling is not involved in the game in any way other than licensing her universe created in the “Harry Potter” books to set the game.

“Hogwarts Legacy” officially launches on February 10th for PS5, Xbox Series and PC. The game arrives on PS4 and Xbox One on April 4th, while the Nintendo Switch will only receive the title on July 25th.
