Fortnite: ranked battles come to Epic Games’ Battle Royale
Epic Games is further expanding the possibilities of gameplay in Fortnite and continues to update its competitive landscape by announcing the arrival of ranked battles in Battle Royale.
The novelty was officially announced last week and arrives at Fortnite in update v24.40, available in the game from this Wednesday (17).
Ranked matches will be available in Battle Royale and Zero Build modes and will replace Arena mode. Other competitive events from the current Chapter 4 Season 2 will continue with no rank requirement for participation.
What will ranked mode be like in Fortnite?
As with other online games, ranked mode in Fortnite adds a rank to players based on their performance in matches.
Following the patterns already known in other games, in Epic Games’ battle royale, the ranked mode will also follow through seasons, with the first, called Season Zero, a kind of a test season, where the developer will take the opportunity to adjust problems that may arise, in addition to implementing additional features and improvements.
Season Zero of ranked mode in Fortnite will continue until the end of Season 3 of Chapter 4 of the game.
Game modes in ranked battles
Despite not necessarily implementing major changes to the usual gameplay of the game, ranked mode in Fortnite will only be available in the following modes:
Battle Royale
- Solo
- Duos
- Squads
Zero Build
- Duos
With that, Epic Games announced that the battle mode in Trios has been disabled from the game. The developer didn’t say if the mode will be available again in Fortnite at some point in the future.
The ranks
Now let’s get to what matters to players: the ranks! In Fortnite, ranks are in total 8 categories, with 5 of them being divided into three tiers.
The categories are: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Champion, Unreal.
The starting rank will be determined based on the player’s performance in previous matches after the first battle in ranked mode, be it Battle Royale or Zero Build, which will have separate ranks.
Elevating the rankings will happen based on the player’s placement in each of the matches, in addition to the eliminations that the player and his group achieved. Eliminations at the end of the match count more than at the beginning and the ranks of players eliminated by you and your team will also be taken into account.
Upon reaching the Unreal rank, the player will remain in it until the end of the ranked season, without the danger of being de-ranked due to poor performance. With that, in the Unreal rank, the player will have a number that will identify his classification among the players of the same rank.
