Fortnite at the movies? “Fast X” director is interested in the project

Movie adaptations of video games are becoming more and more popular and important, guaranteeing high box offices and breaking records. And one of the most popular games today may soon hit the big screen thanks to the director of the movie “Fast X”. Yes, we are talking about Fortnite.

In his participation at San Diego Comic-Con 2023, on the Collider‘s “Directors on Directing” panel, Louis Laterrier commented on his interest in turning Fortnite into a movie, pointing out its potential for the big screen.

[I would direct a Fortnite movie] because the game is incredible,” stated Louis Laterrier, who continued:

“The characters… I mean there’s so much more to be told. It’d be funny. It would be full of action and everything. I think I would love to do that.”

Despite the filmmaker’s interest, there is still no confirmation of a Fortnite project for theaters.

Fortnite in theaters yes, but not for now…

With all the big box office movie adaptations of video games gaining more and more attention not only from the public, but also from the film industry, a Fortnite movie doesn’t seem to be that impossible, but for Epic Games, the developer of the Battle Royale, that won’t happen for now.

Earlier this year, Epic Games CEO Donald Mustard commented on the possibility of a Fortnite movie, noting that he already has a story in mind for it, even if he has nothing in development at the moment.

“I want to make things that are always authentic and that are great stories. And so, [the film] is not something that we’re actively working on right now. I’m not saying it would never happen. In fact, I mean, I know exactly how I would do the Fortnite [film]. I know exactly the story I’d like, but it’s not the focus right now. I don’t have time”, said the CEO.
