Fortnite Olympic

Fortnite is now an Olympic Esport

The International Olympic Committee – IOC is preparing for another Olympic Esports event, the Olympic Esports Series, and has chosen “Fortnite” as the official sports shooting game of the event.

Scheduled to take place between June 22 and 25 in Singapore, the Olympic Esports Series is the successor to the Olympic Virtual Series, an event that took place before the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

Nine modalities were announced initially, including racing, baseball, archery, chess and many others, and now, “Fortnite” arrives to total 10 games chosen for the Olympic Esports event.

The IOC’s idea with the modalities chosen for the Olympic Esports Series is to have a peaceful competition with an equivalent physical sport. The ultimate goal is to take Esports to the Summer Olympics properly, but this is still frowned upon by many people and is under study by the International Olympic Committee.

The games announced so far are:

  • Fortnite
  • Just Dance
  • Tic Tac Bow
  • WBSC eBaseball: Power Pros
  • Chess.com
  • Zwift
  • Gran Turismo
  • Virtual Regatta
  • Virtual Taekwondo
  • Tennis: Clash

Organized in partnership with Epic Games, developer of the game, the “Fortnite” Olympic competition will feature 12 participants, all from the Fortnite Champions Series.

The competition will take place on an island specially created for the event and will have the support of the International Shooting Sport Federation.

According to the IOC, there will be no battle-royale battles, with only one player surviving, or demonstration matches, since sports competition as a whole cannot promote violence, whether virtual or otherwise.
