E3 2023 is officially canceled
Are we starting to see a shift in the way gaming and entertainment events take place? Only time will tell, but E3 has already suffered its first crash and the 2023 edition has officially been canceled.
Famous for being one of the main gaming events on the planet (and for a long time the biggest one), E3 2023 was officially canceled due to the lack of interest from the main companies in the sector to participate in the event.
The cancellation of E3 2023 came after some years of crisis in the events sector, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which caused the cancellation of its edition in 2022. The 2021 edition took place virtually.
The announcement of the cancellation of E3 2023 was made through an email sent to members this Thursday (30), confirming that the event did not get the necessary interest to take place.
After that, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), organizers of the event, published a statement:
“This was a difficult decision because of all the effort we and our partners put toward making this event happen, but we had to do what’s right for the industry and what’s right for E3. We appreciate and understand that interested companies wouldn’t have playable demos ready and that resourcing challenges made being at E3 this summer an obstacle they couldn’t overcome. For those who did commit to E3 2023, we’re sorry we can’t put on the showcase you deserve and that you’ve come to expect from ReedPop’s event experiences.”
The future of E3
E3 – Electronic Entertainment Expo made history for many years and was the place every gamer dreamed of being every year, where the biggest announcements of games and consoles happened first hand.
With the cancellation of the 2023 edition of the event, the future of E3 seems uncertain and the organizers point to virtual events, which many companies in the sector have adopted as a recurring practice, as one of the main reasons for the “possible end” of the event.
Despite this, the organizers say they will work to return the event in the future.
