Discord bans 68,000 servers and 55 million accounts

With so many different game platforms and the growing need to communicate well in a multiplayer game, Discord has become an indispensable tool for gamers and their group communication. And in a recent report, the platform confirmed the banning of more than 68,000 servers and 55 million accounts.

The security report for the third quarter of the year was released by Discord and pointed out a major cleaning on the platform’s servers and accounts, mostly due to attitudes related to Spam.

The total number of disabled accounts stood at 55,573,411 and that of servers stood at 68,379.

Discord Safety

In addition to spam bans, 1,821,721 accounts were banned from Discord for other reasons, most of which related to child safety and exploitative or unsolicited content.

“Our mission at Discord is to create welcoming spaces where people can find belonging. We recognize that safety enables people to find belonging and that’s why safety is one of our most important investments and priorities,” the company wrote in its report.

“Safety is a vital priority for our company. Around 15 percent of all Discord employees are dedicated to this area and every employee shares in the commitment to keeping Discord safe,” the report concluded.

Discord ban can be appealed

Despite the high number of account and server bans in the third quarter of the year, Discord ensures that if the user thinks they have been banned incorrectly, they can appeal and get their account and server back.

“Discord allows users to appeal actions taken on their accounts if they believe that the enforcement was incorrect. We welcome appeals and take them seriously when they raise context or information that we may not have known. We review appeals and reinstate accounts if we determine that a mistake was made or if we believe, based on the appeal, that the user has recognized the violation made for a low-harm issue.”
