Deceive Inc.: fun multiplayer with good gameplay variety

Currently, games as a service are very common in the market. And some of them come with differentials to try to stand out in this immensity of multiplayer games.

But what about “Deceive Inc.” does it differently? And how does your gameplay stand out from other online games? Let’s see.

Spying is fun

“Deceive Inc.” is a game with a first-person view in which you can play solo or in trios against other players. In total there are a maximum of 12 players (four teams in the case of trios) with one goal: Obtain and successfully extract the package.

While this objective is similar to survival games like “Escape From Tarkov”, the difference lies in how to obtain the final objective. And players can choose from eight spies and are inserted into one of four maps available at the game’s launch and need to hack terminals and disable the terminals in order to gain access to the very valuable package that is protected.

Part of the game’s great selling point is that you can disguise yourself as one of the many characters on each map. And each character also has different characteristics such as levels of access to certain areas of the game and with this it is revealed that, although good marksmanship is required, knowing how to disguise and behave like non-player characters can become a weapon much more powerful.

Knowing how to disguise yourself is not just the only activity, it is also necessary to collect “intelligence” points that are scattered throughout the level to be able to open higher access doors and chests with improvements for your abilities.

These improvements can be modified in the main menu that have levels where the best ones give a greater increase in skills, ranging from speeding up the charging of your disguise bar to being able to carry more intelligence points.

And all these elements cannot be without the presentation part: The graphics are very good and it has a lot of personality. Characters, scenery, objects and non-player characters have charisma and it’s very interesting to browse the maps and see what can be done. The game follows a theme that is somewhat reminiscent of the steampunk theme, but mixed with a lot of technology, it even has a character that is very reminiscent of Colt from the excellent “Deathloop”.

The sound work is good with songs that fit the visual theme of the game very well, but a greater variety of songs could make the game even better, but I wouldn’t consider it a detriment for it.

It is also worth remembering that the game has a store, so far only for cosmetics to be purchased with real money, but there are many cosmetics that can be purchased with the game’s internal currency.

Delayed transmission

The experience of “Deceive Inc.” it doesn’t go without problems and I could say that one of them is the content, and actually currently it’s not enough: we have eight agents, but despite their individualities, the gameplay is very similar and only small modifications of their primary weapons and four maps may be insufficient and soon the player will possibly find himself doing the same objective over and over again. Of course, there is no guarantee of success in all attempts to extract the package, but there is not a big factor that drastically differentiates the matches.

Of course, it’s extremely important in this day and age for games to have an update schedule to keep their current player base loyal and also to attract new ones, but it might be a little too early to expect the developers’ plans for the game.

But there is one factor that I consider the biggest problem, which is the latency of the servers. The game apparently does not have servers in my region and with that, there is a huge damage confirmation delay when using the game’s weapons. And that in a final showdown to defend against other players who want the ultimate goal of the game, such a huge delay can be the factor that can decide victory or defeat. Here I say that this can be extremely relative because the game can behave completely different from my experience with the latency of communication with the servers.

Incorporated Fun

The most important thing is to say that the game can yield good live streams, as many moments can require improvisation and generate a lot of laughter, even some animations that sometimes break and the characters are in different positions than desired and making a team with friends can be a lot of fun and enhance the experience.

In all my matches I didn’t have any performance problems and despite the recommended requirements a little demanding, the game has upscaling options from Nvidia and Intel (DLSS and XeSS respectively) to make it a little more accessible.

Summary

Deceive Inc. it’s a lot of fun and playing with friends can be a good time. Unfortunately, the game suffers from little content at launch and a calendar of updates could get players more excited about the news to come.
