Blasphemous 2

Blasphemous 2 takes the player on a dark, disturbing and immersive adventure

Four years after its incredible debut with the first Blasphemous, The Game Kitchen finally brings out its sequel, following on directly from the true ending of the first game, with an improvement in its already beautiful pixel art animations and a new take on its main cutscenes that will divide its fans, as well as faster and more dynamic gameplay. Let’s now explore more about our Penitent’s disturbing adventure.

Blasphemous 2 improves on the original gameplay, but there are caveats

The first thing you’ll notice when you start playing is that the opening no longer uses that dark pixel art style, with more muted colors. Now we have a beautiful, but slightly off-putting, digital animation with brighter colors and a beautiful fluidity, but which has divided its fans in terms of tone compared to the first game.

The cutscenes continue with their beautiful narration, which although the game already comes with English audio as a base, playing in Spanish gives you more immersion and has a group of excellent voice actors, which further strengthens the creators’ vision. But if that’s not your preference, the English dubbing is still as good as ever.

In terms of gameplay, we have very similar controls to the original Blasphemous, but invincibility frames have been removed, causing some pretty nasty deaths against enemies that trap you in their animation and some bosses that can frustrate players.

Now, our hero has a good variety of weapons for all types of players and a good selection of skills to unlock and feel stronger with each small advance.

Of course, difficulty is one of the high points of the adventure and players have come to expect it. But in Blasphemous 2, I found its approach more friendly to new players or people who aren’t fans of the genre. I don’t usually play souls-like games myself, but I had some great lives with my audience discovering the map, facing bosses and overcoming challenges, it was amazing from start to finish.

Restrictions and cautions for a Livestream

Due to the heavy themes and disturbing scenes for some people, even because it’s about religion, the streamer should be aware that some people may not be comfortable with the penitent’s adventure and the stream should be marked as adult content.

For those of you who don’t care about these issues, you’ll be happy to know that all of its Renaissance art is still going strong and remains one of the best pixel arts I’ve ever seen. Each new area I entered was a sight for sore eyes, and it left the live viewers as amazed as I was at the quality of detail, of each area and of the enemies, from their colors to their poses. It’s like a work of art appearing at every moment, not to mention the soundtrack which is the icing on the cake for hours of fun.

Tested on its PC version on Steam, the game ran smoothly during the live stream and is translated 11 languages, allowing the streamer and his viewers to better understand the adventure.

Summary

Blasphemous 2, like its first game, is a work of art in every aspect. However, its theme may not appeal to everyone on a livestream, but for those who like its style, they will have an unforgettable adventure to follow.
