Arcana of Paradise: Does practice make perfect?
If there is a game that translates well the saying “practice makes perfect”, that game is Arcana of Paradise – The Tower, where the player will need a lot of practice and repetition to reach the main objective of the game: to take the children to paradise .
Didn’t quite understand what we meant? We explain: The plot of Arcana of Paradise accompanies a group of children who live at the top of a tower, described as infinite (is it?), and who need to go down the tower to get bread to survive. In the mythology of these children, heaven is on the surface, once you get to the end of the tower.
And if “bread is hard and heavy, just like life”, the adventure in Arcana of Paradise is also somewhat hard and heavy, if by hard and heavy we mean repetitive and sometimes even monotonous, two things that, we know well, they can be something that scares the audience away from a livestream and can also scare away less patient players.
Patience is a virtue
The premise of Arcana of Paradise – The Tower is simple: survive and reach the end of the tower. The adventure always takes place in pairs, with two children going down the tower, unraveling its mysteries and facing enemies in turn-based battles in real time.
To fight, the player uses cards. So above all, the game here is about creating decks of cards and with each defeated enemy or overcome area, you add new cards to your deck.
Unraveling all the cards available in the game can be a fun mission to do together with your audience. Quite a challenge, by the way.
In Arcana of Paradise, repetition can tire
Like a good roguelike, the adventure in Arcana of Paradise is based on trial and error. That is, with a lot of repetition.
With each incursion into the tower, the player will experience different scripts, with battles, items and appearances of different characters, at different times. However, after a while, even with this randomness, the repetition of the game can become tiresome. The impatient ones will want to beat the tower right away so they can rest (or does it really rest?).
After a few of these incursions into the tower, the streamer will have to be quite creative to hold their audience’s attention and even not to lose their own interest in the game.
There are 12 floors in total, with areas divided into blocks of 3, which can bring enemies, items and even shortcuts to get deeper into the tower. The scenarios, as you can imagine, are quite repetitive, with little change between one area and another.
As the player advances, new functions and new areas of the map are also unlocked.
Survival is essential
It doesn’t take a genius to know that in Arcana of Paradise, the player has to survive. And survival here is: keeping children alive and well fed. That’s right! Bread here is the main survival item and yes, it is scarce and precious.
Bread is also a kind of in-game currency. With it, in addition to keeping the children alive and recovering their VPs in battles, you can also offer bread to a kind of Tree of Life to rebuild parts of the Commune, where the children live at the top of the tower.
Yes, in Arcana of Paradise there is also a construction element, which helps in battles and in the evolution of children as warriors. Here, strategy is key to keeping everyone alive and advancing the story and improving the Commune.
There are 20 children in total to save and each of them has well-drawn stories and art, with touches of watercolor.
As you progress, each of the children unlocks their stories and the player can also come up with a good strategy to, before sending them to paradise, know all the stories of each one of them. A good way to keep the live stream lively and the gameplay more dynamic.
In summary, Arcana of Paradise – The Tower is a simple RPG with roguelike and deck building elements that is quite interesting, but which can become boring because of its repetition.
The tested version was the PC one, by Steam, and didn’t have any performance problems. The game is light and can also serve as a good background for the streamer’s conversation with his audience.
With interesting moments here and there, Arcana of Paradise – The Tower can guarantee good moments in a livestream, but the streamer’s creativity will be very important not to lose the attention of its audience in great moments of repetition of the game.
