AfreecaTV: streaming platform announces Valorant championship
You may not know or have only vaguely heard about AfreecaTV, but the live streaming platform is quite popular in Asia, especially in Vietnam, and recently announced they are holding an off-season Valorant championship, in partnership with Riot Games.
Currently the 5th largest live streaming platform in the world, in terms of number of hours watched, AfreecaTV has already held several Valorant off-season championships and the next one will take place in South Korea, between the 4th and 10th of December.
The championship will be in person, held at the Sangam Afreeca Colosseum, in Seoul, capital of South Korea, and will feature some of the biggest teams in the professional Valorant scene, such as DRX and Team Liquid and the current world runner-up, Paper Rex.
There will be 8 teams in total, including Asian, American and European names, competing for the AfreecaTV Valorant League title.

- Team Liquid (European Union)
- DRX (South Korea)
- T1 (South Korea)
- EDward Gaming (China)
- Full Sense (Thailand)
- Paper Rex (Singapore)
- Fancy United Esports (Vietnam)
About AfreecaTV
Still a little far from competing for a good share of the live streaming market with names like Twitch, YouTube and Kick, AfreecaTV is a strong name in Asia, especially in Vietnam.
Currently, the platform has almost 70,000 active channels and reached a peak audience of 1,648,872 users on November 6, 2022. Its maximum number of simultaneously active channels was 5,320, on January 12, 2023, according to data from the website StreamsCharts.
Among the most popular games on AfreecaTV are: League of Legends, Star Craft: Remastered, PUBG, TFT and Lost Ark. The platform is also popular with music streaming, travel content and sports such as baseball, fishing and football.
Despite its popularity in Vietnam, it is South Korean streamers who dominate AfreecaTV, with the platform’s top 50 all being from South Korea.
