Adore

Adore gets the gameplay right, but makes some mistakes

Capturing monsters, action-focused gameplay and beautiful art means that Adore ends up creating expectations among players who like the theme and want a more dynamic game to adventure through.

Cadabra Games does it well and gets many things right with Adore, an action RPG where the player needs to capture monsters to help the protagonist on a journey to resurrect the God of Creatures.

Choose your monsters

Adore’s gameplay proposal is simple: You adventure through the game’s phases, capturing the monsters you prefer so that they can fight alongside you and thus advance in the game’s story. The player can use up to four creatures, but can capture others and leave them in the “sanctuary” and can assemble the team as soon as they finish exploring the phases.

The game has some depth in what you can do with the monsters. There is a way to increase the level by battling other enemy creatures and there is a resource of synergies and runes to cause the most different statuses in battles. Monsters also have three types and this expands the possible synergy options in battles.

The game’s art is also a highlight, there are very beautiful scenes that match very well with the regions of each part of the game. There is one point in particular, which I thought was very good, that there is an effect as if the camera passes over a tree and this effect is very well implemented. It’s a really cool detail to be shown in a livestream, which combined with the fun gameplay, can captivate viewers.

Adore’s journey can become tedious

If Adore has fun gameplay and very beautiful art, there are factors that can weigh heavily against the game. Because it has closed scenarios, the game could use some procedural generation technique for the content of the maps, since after a few minutes the player will notice that he is always walking in the same sectors of the phases, just with the orders changed.

The sound part could also use more attack and creature sounds to give the monsters more sound. The game for the most part is just background music and most creatures don’t make many sounds when called to attack. And it’s inconsistent, as some have it and most don’t. This, combined with the problem of repeating levels, can make the game tedious and scare away people who are watching someone on broadcast.

No technical problems

Despite these issues, I had no problems playing and at no point did I have problems with crashes or framerate drops. It’s a very polished game that many streamers will have no problem playing.

The game also has multiple language options, but unfortunately it does not have any dubbing.

Summary

Adore is a good action RPG experience with a mix of monster capture. Unfortunately for some the journey can become tedious with some level design and sound issues, but for those who don’t care about these points, it can be a long journey of good content.
