KarmaZoo offers a different kind of cooperative experience in an era filled with multiplayer games
As a matter of personal taste, many people may prefer to have their gaming experiences in solo campaigns, but the pleasure of sharing experiences in certain multiplayer games, especially collaborative ones, is certainly interesting.
This type of games have always brought extra fun to a gaming group session and, nowadays, to online sessions with friends. Since The Game Awards in 2021 crowned It Takes Two, an exclusively cooperative multiplayer game, as the best game of that year, I’ve seen more and more innovative experiences in this specific genre, from the previously mentioned game itself to other collective gaming experiences that have become popular over the years, whether cooperative or competitive multiplayer.
KarmaZoo comes with great replayability factor
KarmaZoo is a clear example of a game where cooperation is the focus. With a minimum of 2 players and a maximum of 10 players, similar to the game model of another indie called PicoPark, this platform game differs in the variation of scenarios, increasing its replayability factor, in the unlocking of characters with different abilities and in the fact that players must always be close to each other, advancing together and helping each other to progress.
A very innovative platform game with a simple premise that’s easy to learn and fun to share with friends. The new title distributed by Devolver Digital is a good choice for live streams because of the possibility of interacting with other streamers and friends, even the chat itself, the stages that change all the time and the various gameplay possibilities with several different creatures. These interactions and multiple possibilities make the opportunity to produce content immense.
Infinite gameplay
Despite being a game with infinite gameplay possibilities, it has objectives to unlock characters and advance in the so-called constellations, being the game’s story excuse for advancing the gameplay. It’s a game that can be played with several people and focuses more on the multiplayer experience than anything else.
Moving on to the game content, in the same sense, there are so many possibilities that make the game a lot of fun to try out and play with different friends whenever possible. As the game is multiplayer for 2-10 players, you don’t need to have so many people together to experience the game, and the more people you have, the more the game maps adapt to this progression.
I played the game in a group of 3 people, including myself, so, for example, the maps were adapted to the presence of these 3 people in the group of players. In this trio gameplay, there were two other Gamohol writers, Katsutoshi and Fezudu, and below I’ll include a quote from Fezudu with his view of the game:
— Fezudu’s point of view:
“Karmazoo for me was a different and familiar experience at the same time. I’ve played cooperative adventures with similar premises, but the game has its own charm, both in its challenges and in its world and characters. Each new animal unlocked was a reason to play again in order to discover how to use its abilities and see its animations.
However, as beautiful as the game is, I found that it can be a bit repetitive after a few hours of playing, at least in my experience with 3 players.
I think it’s a great game to bring along occasionally on a live stream and play a few levels with your audience or a group of friends for an hour or two and switch to other content.”
KarmaZoo
Summary
KarmaZoo is a different experience for a multiplayer game and values collaboration within an innovative and fun, yet simple platform game that brings multiple gameplay possibilities and several characters with different mechanics. The game may not be very engaging to stream because it requires other players to play together, which isn’t very common, and it may also become repetitive over time because it doesn’t necessarily have gameplay that deviates much from the standard platform game, but it’s certainly one of the best multiplayer options of recent times, as it’s a fun and simple game to play with friends and share with your community.
I have 25 years, I produce content to internet for 4 years and I like retro games, indies and I’m an enthusiast for new launches. I have as my favorite games Donkey Kong Country 2, Super Mario World, Hollow Knight and Red Dead Redemption II, per example. I like to experiment everything and the more, the better, but I never get sick of my comfort games!
