Twitch follows YouTube and grows again in October

After a month of decline, with an audience below 1.7 billion hours watched for the first time in 2023, Twitch returned to growth in October, following in the footsteps of YouTube, which also grew its audience in the 10th month of the year.

Despite the growth in hours watched, Amazon’s live streaming platform lost in Peak Viewers and Active Channels.

The ups and downs of Twitch

While Twitch continues to adapt to the new live streaming landscape, thanks to competition with platforms like Kick, it also continues to lead when it comes to gamer content.

According to the website StreamsCharts, in October, Twitch recovered a little and returned to the mark of 1.7 billion hours watched, ending the month with 1.777 billion hours watched, representing an increase of 7% compared to September. The number is also the second highest of the year, behind only March, when it got 1.797 billion hours watched.

In October, the Amazon platform also saw growth in Average Viewers and Games Streamed.

Despite good audience numbers, Twitch lost in Peak Viewers, Active Channels, Peak Active Channels and Average Active Channels.

YouTube leads easily, but loses in gaming content

As the biggest video content platform today, YouTube is of course also the main platform for live streaming. In October alone, for example, YouTube had a total of 3.393 billion hours watched, an increase of 6% compared to September.

Despite its grandeur, when we talk about gaming content, YouTube loses compared to Twitch. With 405 million hours watched, a 3% drop compared to the previous month, YouTube Gaming corresponds to 12% of the total hours watched on Google’s video platform.

Additionally, in October, YouTube also saw growth in its Average Viewers, Peak Channels, Active Channels, and Games Streamed.
