Monster Sanctuary

“Monster Sanctuary” incorporates Metroidvania-style gaming into monster capturing RPG

It’s not new that a lot of games try to replicate the same magic from the “Pokémon” franchise. And recently, tons of indie games with this theme have appeared, including “Monster Sanctuary“, which brings a new flavor to the genre!

“Monster Sanctuary” is not just a simple turn-based battle RPG with monster capture, it’s also a METROIDVANIA! That’s right! You know, the games like “Metroid” or “Castlevania: Symphony of the Night”? Mix them together with the “Pokémon” game style and you will get “Monster Sanctuary”.

The game also includes skills that allow you to traverse between diverse areas, allowing you to also receive help from your monsters to complete puzzles or reach new locations.

Your monsters are charming and quite creative, with nice pixel art that reminds us of the Super Nintendo games. The icing on the cake of “Monster Sanctuary” is the variety of languages available in its localization, which is really nicely done.

The Metroidvania style from “Monster Sanctuary” can be the focus of a Live stream

“Monster Sanctuary” works really well for a live stream service, even being a turn-based RPG, which depending on your audience’s liking, can look a little monotonous in the turn-based battles. However, this exploration in the Metroidvania-style brings something new that can be focused nicely for the audience.

For international streamers, it helps a lot that the game has tons of available languages, which allows them to reach a wider audience, so the viewers can be more comfortable with their own languages.

As you advance more into the game’s story, you will unlock the PVP Online mode, one more way of interacting with the viewers and having fun online battles with random players or the audience.

Monster Sanctuary gameplay

Speaking of combat, “Monster Sanctuary” is a turn-based RPG 3 versus 3. Monsters have different elements, a personalized skill tree, which allows a deeper customization, and also tons of equipment that can alter their stats. The game has some skins and colors for the main characters that can be unlocked during the gameplay, to give it some sense of customization for the trainer. Nothing too deep, but it’s welcome.

Being an RPG, “Monster Sanctuary” has some repetition with the grinding to evolve and make your monsters stronger, so you can advance in the story, but nothing like the old school RPGs.

In the end, “Monster Sanctuary” is a game that I recommend for Streamers and their audiences who enjoy a turn-based RPGs, monster taming games and Metroidvania-style games.
