Soulstone Survivor: Personality, Fun, and Lots of Content

Games born from the rogue-like action or Bullet Heaven genres always offer a wide range of content, and Soulstone Survivor is no exception. On the contrary, there is a lot to discover and hours to enjoy here.

(For readers unfamiliar: “roguelike” games are known for procedural levels, permadeath, and strong replayability.)

Visuals That Grab You

Visually, it is as impressive as its content.

I think what caught my attention right away was its colorful, flashy, exaggerated look and fun characters, something that really appeals to me in games, and here it was no different. I loved the mysterious aesthetics of the characters, with their faces hidden and a focus on their behaviors and accessories to better distinguish them.

The same can be said about its maps and enemies, and here you will see a lot of them. Their simple models are very well crafted and allow you to identify everything well within the chaos that reigns during some matches, with special emphasis on the bosses, who are gigantic and your focus during gameplay. After all, defeating them will reward you with lots of experience, crystals, among other things that will allow you to unlock new content and strengthen your heroes.

Powers Everywhere — In Awe or Overload?

There is an absurd amount of powers and abilities to use that are very cool to watch, at least in the beginning. After a while, everything gets a bit messy with powers everywhere, and it can be a bit too much for the player to understand and even dodge attacks. But the developers were smart enough to allow us to control the opacity of the effects both via the menu and during the game, so we can better control our heroes during the m

Overwhelming for Some, Streamer’s Delight

Too much content can be overwhelming for some players, but it’s great for streamers.

As much as I see it as a positive thing, this huge range of content can be intimidating for some people when they start the game and see the huge amount of upgrades, weapons, skills, and other things that can be unlocked. If you don’t really like games that require a lot of “farming” to unlock their content, this might not be for you. However, for streamers, this can be very appealing, allowing for great replay value for their channel and audience, since more and more content will be released almost constantly.

Wish: Online Co-op Mode

Something that I feel would be a lot of fun for this game would be some kind of online cooperative mode, but it would have to be something that didn’t overload the screen with powers beyond what we already have, but that would be extremely fun and would be even better to bring to a live stream and increase interaction with the audience.

Unfortunately, after a few hours, the game can become a little repetitive, but fans of the genre are already prepared for that. I believe that taking a few breaks and returning later can reduce this fatigue, after all, the game is a lot of fun.

Performance & Localization

Its performance is great; on an average machine, it should run smoothly even with so much happening on the screen, which shows good optimization from the developers. In addition, the game is available in 13 more languages. Plus, more post-launch content is planned.
