Even with major events, Twitch sees audience drop in February

In February, Twitch hosted broadcasts of major esports championships and events for the streamer community in general, such as The Streamer Awards, an award created by QTCinderella and which named Kai Cenat as Streamer of the Year for the second consecutive time.

Despite this, the second month of the year showed a drop in audience on Amazon’s live streaming platform, when compared to January’s results.

Fewer days, less audience?

You might be thinking: but February has fewer days, of course there would be less audience. While this may be something that influenced Twitch’s final audience in February, we have to take into account that January and December saw great growth on the platform.

Therefore, despite the “negative” result, it can be understood that February, even with fewer days, was still a month of great numbers for Twitch.

February’s numbers

In February, Twitch saw a drop in all metrics analyzed. According to the StreamsCharts website, only the number of Peak Viewers increased, reaching 4,799,359, an increase of 4% compared to January.

In terms of hours watched, the main metric analyzed, Twitch had a drop of 8%, reaching 1.769 billion hours watched in February.

The average number of active users, active channels and peak active channels also fell compared to January.

A new leader on Twitch

When we talk about popular streamers on Twitch, usually the Top 10 is pretty similar every month, but with Kick signing big names to its platform, the musical chairs of the Amazon platform have been interesting to see.

And in February, we have a new leader: the American streamer Jynxzi, who rose three positions compared to the previous month to take the top 10 most popular streamers on Twitch, in total hours watched, reaching 10.15 million hours watched.

The biggest growth of the month, however, was from the Brazilian Baiano, who rose no less than 29 positions to rank as the 5th most popular streamer on the platform.
